This book dives heavily into intense and dark themes, so please take extreme notice of the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book. However, if you're drawn to sinister storytelling, the dual perspectives of the Manipulator and the Shadow offer a gripping narrative. The ending left me eager to download Hunting Adeline.
For fans of dark 'romance,' this is worth exploring. But, if you're sensitive to these themes or not a fan of dark romance, skipping it won't be a huge loss. Personally, while well-written, it wasn't a must-read for me.

One of my new favorite books. The subject matter is definitely very dark and people should absolutely be aware of that before trying to read these books. At least for me, the subject matter wasn't enough to turn me off, and in reality, I truly loved both the story and the author's style overall. Carlton has a wonderful writing style that flows exceptionally well and still feels completely natural. I constantly found myself enthralled and reading for hours on end with ease. Addie, as a character, was a bit annoying at first but I got used to her personality over time and I loved Zade and Daya (Addie's best friend).

Very curious now to see how I'll handle the second book.

Just ew. The hypocrisy of the main male character (killing and getting rid of pedos and rapists only to stalk and sexually harass woman himself). And I won't even bother explaining stupidity of the main female character. Moths have more brains when they fly into fire...

Low key felt like a poorly written Wattpad book from 2012. Appreciated the trigger warnings, but the book writes rape culture off as kinks. Super insensitive masking as “edgy”, and pretty awkward writing.

The writing was just okay and the plot was just okay with some real convenient stretches of the imagination, lol. The MMC’s job was intriguing but overall the storyline was weak and corny. I will say the author did do the spicy scenes well (although this is my first dark romance, non/dub con book).

Please read the content warnings before starting this book. “Dark” is an understatement.

I hated this book. The only reason I read it was for a book club. I'm still mind boggled that it is so popular on booktok.
