It's definitely what I've come to expect from Grimm Fairy Tales, though. Dark, twisted, and a lot of fun. The pace was gripping and kept me turning pages, and the art was good. The art isn't amazing, or innovative, but it does tell the story well. I loved the lettering for the queens, though. That was a terrific way of laying it out. White on red was difficult to read in places, though.

Copy of this graphic novel was provided to me by NetGalley in return for an honest review.

ühesõnaga, neid pilte võib ju vaadata, kellele selline asi huvi pakub (lõpus on lehekülgede kaupa alternatiivseid kaanekujundusi, kus fantaasia hooleks jääb järjest vähem), aga sisu poolest pole küll mõtet lugeda.

This is the first book in the ongoing series Wonderland but the second that I've read from this particular offshoot. I will start with the positives of why this gets a three star rating and that is the writing is actually a lot stronger than the Alice in Wonderland comic series and the characters aren't as flat. The mythology that they've developed around Wonderland is interesting but the real star of this particular volume is the Hatter, whom the writer does an excellent job of creating. Unfortunately, the same issues are coming up when it comes to depictions of the female characters on some level and our engagement with them still leaves something to be desired. I agree with the other reviews that the tarting up of Alice wasn't necessary and the women characters in this are a little better but not great. (If you're going to create battle scenes with women fighting, could they at least be wearing armor and no a bikini top with metallic swirls doesn't count.) I think that Calie and Violet are worlds away from how Alice's bland, forgettable personality was but I also feel like they weren't given enough to do throughout the story. Calie plays overprotective mother and Violet plays annoyed but mostly understanding teenager and in the five chapters of the volume, they don't arch at all. The Queen of Spades is also given little to nothing to do for five chapters except wring her hands together kinda like Mr. Burns and it's a waste of an otherwise interesting character. In all, I think I will pass on the rest of this series and its offshoots. It becomes cumbersome to watch the world start to feel a little hollow and the characters begin to lose their appeal quickly when they aren't given anything to do except run away from things and talk about stuff that happened before.

This was nothing like Alice in Wonderland. Everything was depraved and just an excuse to see hal naked women. The only thin remotely close to Alice was the names and even then I hadn't heard half of them that were mentioned in this. This was just made out of poor taste and riding on someone elses success.
