The dog Holmes? You just had to kill the dog?!?!?
This is a hard one for me to rate. The story was compelling, the characters were well drawn and the writing was beautiful, BUT ... the depiction on Mormons, especially Brigham Young, was highly distasteful (and takes up half of the book).
2.5 stars ... right down the middle.

Just finished rereading A Study in Scarlet after so long—and the nostalgia really hit. The introduction of Holmes and Watson remains iconic, and the case is still nice and gripping.
Not planning to continue the series just yet, but I’m glad I revisited this little piece of detective history.

An interesting case, sadly the second half was kinda boring with all those background story.
It took me a hot minute to grasp the change in time (first victorian book) but it was written so well
Sherlock, is well, Sherlock and I can't wait to see how the next few books pan out

I really liked this book. I found the story interesting and the writing was very readable (I wasn't sure what to expect on that front.) I had a moment of confusion in the middle of the book but pretty quickly realized where the author had gone. I enjoyed the detour. It was enlightening to read about the meeting of Holmes and Watson. It definitely gave me an original view of how the pair interacted and the enjoyable oddities of Holmes and his methods.
