the sluts is a book about parasociality and the dehumanization of mythologizing, and how the internet acts a catalyst. Brad is a hustler who quickly becomes a character in the lives of the users of this escort review site. in becoming a character, the users of the site want to kill him as part of the fantasy. the sluts first acts as a critque of the way that people treat sex workers, but as the narrative advances, we slowly see the users of the site seek out to ruin the real Brad. in the end it doesn't matter that brad is thad or a fiction or whatever many of the people wanted to be with the idea of brad, the myth of brad and part of a larger story. sometimes when something becomes an urban myth, the people involved become myths and not humans.

Once again Goodreads should allow half stars because this is a SOLID 3 and a half. It’s not for everybody, and I feel like I’m not the target audience, however this was a highly addictive page turner for me.

This book is formatted like a 2001/2002 message board where Johns review male escorts. My e-copy was kinda messed up so I’m not sure if it was supposed to be like this or not, but mine had lots of typos that felt very organic to that type of “place”.

This book is HEAVY, sick, and depraved. 100% of the characters belong in either prison or a mental facility.

But this book is also actually laugh out loud funny. It always killed me when a particularly twisted review was followed by a calm, logical webmaster trying to moderate the thread. I wonder if Nick Carter knows about this…
