I bought The Four thinking I was buying a thriller, a suspenseful book about the disappearance and death of a student. But I wasn't disappointed at all. The Four embodies the quintessence of the dark academia, with its sombre atmosphere and boarding school that forces a closeness between people who aren't destined to meet and like each other. I found that some of the book's length was for nothing, which, combined with the rather long chapters, discouraged me from reading it (sometimes). The characters, however, are very well written, as complex as they are realistic. The addition of studies of different poems offers a new perception of life and feelings that I'm glad I was able to experience. Paradoxically, I found the ending too abrupt and quick, and in the epilogue the incomprehensible action of a character, who settles in just a few lines, was uncessecary and didn’t reflect the character at all. Despite their flaws, we find ourselves attached to these characters who are the personification of an oxymoron, I was curious about their thoughts, and the way they approche life. This book made me think and see certain aspects of life differently, and I'm very glad I read it.

The premise of this book sounded so good and then I was barraged with continual trauma and sexual violence against girls.

I don’t know who this book is for but I’m tired of reading these books filled with sexual violence and suicide especially when they are glossed over and don’t add anything to the story.

The trigger warnings of this book should be long and honestly, this isn’t dark academia. It’s just violent and painful to read.

I don’t want to give this any stars but that’s not an option.

This book was okay. I’m definitely happy I listened to the audio, or I may have DNF’d it. I feel like it was way too long and could have probably been condensed to about half the length.
