Thank you Harper Collins for the proof copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Although this book is set in sixth form and the characters are of YA age, this is definitely an adult book. There are many dark topics and themes so I would definitely recommend reading trigger warnings beforehand. If I’m honest, I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with so much trauma (which if you look at my Goodreads history, you’ll find that hard to believe).
All of the characters are flawed and throughout the book you find yourself wondering who to trust and constantly questioning motives and decisions. The relationships were also a bit confusing and I’m not sure if that’s supposed to be a reflection of the characters’ ages and learning how to navigate life, or if it’s just part of their personalities.
I found a lot of plot points to be predictable but other moments shocked me, I definitely went on a rollercoaster of emotions and finished the book feeling similarly to how I felt when I finished Babel - a weight on my chest.
I’ve heard that this is similar vibes to ‘If we were villains’ and ‘Saltburn’ - both of which I haven’t read/seen, but I think you may like this if you enjoyed Babel. There’s a similar vibe of a prestigious school, elitism/classism, four students working together, and also elements of learning throughout.
I’m now emotionally drained and am off to stare at a wall for the foreseeable future.

This isn't my normal genre of books. I do think there should be a trigger warning at the front of the book. This story broke my heart all the way through. It showed how one traumatic event can affect a person for the rest of the life!
Will need a light-hearted book to get over my heart ache!!!
