Twisty Thriller, Fast paced, short chapters. I am def interested in reading more by this author. I do agree part two was a bit rushed and hard to follow at times but I enjoyed it overall.

The story felt so simple. I kinda expected to be more deep and the ending felt so normal, predictable. The first part of the book is tense and good

I just finished the chain which was recommended to me by so many people and it was ok, but a select few parts of the book really made me angry. Is written by a man but the main character is a woman and you can tell he knows nothing about how women think. He also said something like “the therapist was in her mid twenties as if someone in her twenties knew anything about darkness” and first off, you need to go through waaay more school than becoming a licensed therapist in your twenties. Also the thirteen year old who got kidnapped was the one seeing the therapist sooooo yeah the girl could have definitely been through stuff. Also she hooks up with her ex husbands brother who she knows is on meth while her daughter literally has just been kidnapped. And then continues to date him as he’s still on meth but says “I just don’t want him to live here until he’s clean” overall a good story but the details!!!

I have so many thoughts.....

I put off reading this book because I thought the concept might be heavy since it involves kids.

However..

I am glad I finally picked this up. I was sucked in from the start. It was so good. Man does book sure make you feel all the feels. Scared, worried, sad, and anxious as hell. I was right there with the characters. As a mother, reading through the eyes of Rachel, it makes you see a glimpse of how you could/would do the impossible to save your child, and that is what is so real about this book.

The entire time I felt as though I couldn't read fast enough to find out what happened.

Very earned 5 stars from me.

While I thought Part 1 was pretty good, Part 2 dragged on so much. I didn’t really care anymore about what happened to any of the characters. Also, the writing was pretty cringeworthy throughout. There was a specific line about the lead’s love interest kissing her, and his breath tasting of coffee AND cigarettes AND scotch like??? It was so weird. I’ve also seen posts claiming McKinty took the plot straight from another book called Deathchain so that’s nice.

Started out well... then it died and buried itself about halfway through.

Cringey read for parents. The Chain is when someone’s child was abducted so I’m turn they must abduct a child to get theirs back. Part of paying your ransom, is the abduction of another child. And it keeps going on..like a chain.

This is easily the worst book I’ve ever read. The plot was so intriguing it could have been a great read, but it was very poorly done. The story skipped around so much, sometimes you had no idea what was going on. Did anyone even edit this book?
