I loved this book more than I expected to. Momoko wasn't instantly likable, but she grew on me, especially as she became closer to Ichigo. What really seals the deal is Momoko's frank and direct voice, even as she tries to be flowery and elegant.
Some parts of the book were a bit slow, especially when Momoko goes into explanations. There aren't clear chapter breaks, either, so it's hard to tell when the story has shifted to a new scene. You get used to it, though, and just roll with the story.
I think this would be a great novel for teen fans of the Lolita style.

It’s been 9 years since my last reading of this, according to Goodreads. I watched the movie last night for the first time in a while, and felt the burning desire to reread this.
If you liked the movie, you’ll like this book. It goes a little more in depth into certain points of the story, and some bits are totally different, but it’s very fun in its own way.
Now, if I could get a hold of the sequel…

This is one of my favorite books, and I have read it over and over and over! The author does a great job of creating a story that brings two very different girls together, and shows how they grow up and grow to be very good friends. It has some hilarious moments in it that make me laugh out loud every time.
