A classic children’s book that has withstood the test of time. The illustrations are colorful and friendly-looking. The puppies disobey their mother, but suffer consequences, so there is a good message to the book as well. Like so many well-loved children’s books, there is repetition on each page so that by the end, the child can say the words along with the reader, even if they can’t read.

This is a charming little story that was good fun to revisit as an adult.

This book is troubling, weird, and most emphatically gives the wrong lessons. Won't read to our little one again.

This is a cute title that I enjoyed as a child. I was glad to read it again as an adult and I can understand why it's a classic, but I don't know that it's one that I would need to read over and over again nowadays. I think it works well for the younger audience, but it is also a book that has lasted so long due to nostalgia (adults choosing the book for the child instead of the child choosing the book). It's a little too long to be a read-aloud, and there's not much of an ending.

For: puppy and dog fans; readers wanting a book that stresses the importance of listening to one's parents.

Possible red flags: some readers may find it too long or anti-climactic.

This is a classic story, but I find the book almost long-winded with its repetitiveness. It is still cute though.
