I wouldn't call this a collection of capital R Romance stories, because they don't all have happy endings. Mostly a very good collection with a couple real duds. Mostly new stories, but the final story in the collection is from 1998, has the g-slur in the title, and suggests that time travel would be possible in 2008... which is close enough to modern time to feel dated rather than quaint.

I was impressed by the way most of the authors made me believe in the romantic connections in their stories in just a dozen or so pages. Romantic short fiction is such a challenge, you don't really have the time to build a whole relationship, especially not if you're also adding time travel into the mix!

I read this across just a few days and I do think it would be better to spread it out if you can, reading no more than a story a day, otherwise the similar themes in some of the stories can start to feel repetitive, as is the nature of an anthology with such a narrow and specific focus!

I really enjoyed this. I knew I would because I like so many of the authors and time travel romance is exactly my comfort genre. I was not disappointed and most enjoyed some of the authors that were new to me, so that was a pleasant surprise. I’ll be seeking out their other works. There were some dark bits so take care of the content alerts, but all in all a joyful read that filled my heart and engaged my imagination.
