Perfectly Imperfect was the perfect story. We all have those books that just stay with us. I can name a book that has impacted me strongly every year. Perfectly Imperfect is this year's book. (Yes, I know there are 11 more months to go). Perfectly Imperfect has out shown all others for me.
I have been told that if a book hits home, it will never be forgotten. Perfectly Imperfect has impacted me in away no other book has done before. I will remember it and I will read it again and again. Perfectly Imperfect is my Kane.
The story is about finding strength. This is the story of surviving verbal abuse. This is a story of acceptance. Willow's story is everyone's story at onetime or another. Its may not have been constant, or extreme, but ugly words are said and they hurt.
Willow has been subjected to terrible treatment for years from her stepfather, half-sister and soon to be ex-husband. A chance meeting with Kane Master, film star, leaves her humiliated and him infatuated. He knows there is something there and fortunately won't let it go.
Kane may not ride in on a white horse but he is definitely a knight in shining armor. Kane witnesses first hand the treatment inflicted on Willow by her family. Again Willow is humiliated, and again, Kane feels the connection. He will not let this go. The next day he takes steps to rescue Willow.
He wants her so badly that he hires her friend as a make up artist with the condition that Willow comes as her assistant. Kane brings her strength. Kane shows her that she has worth. Kane didn't take over her life, he reached out and let her know she can do it. To him, she is perfect.
Soon, Willow is working for Kane. His determination has Willow admitting the connection. His determination has her giving them a chance. The romance, the love present left me smiling for hours. I found Willow's strength inspiring. I found Kane's support amazing.
Do not assume that Perfectly Imperfect is all gumballs and roses. Kane has a secret. He won't tell her what is going on because he gave his word to Mia. Boy was I guessing all kinds of things. There were teasers. There were misdirections. There was a shocking outcome.
The best part of the story is Willow's growing inner strength. She will no longer roll over. She will no longer cow down to others. She will stand tall. She will need all of her strength she can find to face the future.

ARC provided by the Author in exchange for an honest review.

It was my first book by Harper. And I ultimately LOVED IT. The first chapter made me cry, second made me mad and by the end of the book I was a raging, sobbing lunatic that was happy about the ending.

In here we meet Willow. Young woman who is struggling with her weight, appearance, behaviour and to be honest? Everything. She was not able to see herself in a positive way. Everything about her for her was wrong. So very wrong she decided to change it. But where normally a change is good I think it made her even more cautious about herself. But what drew me in the most? Her kindness. Harper has pictured her as kind and sweet person, but not stupid. And that's what made it so amazing. I can't stand sweet and stupid woman. And because of that I would bet most of women could find a bit of themselves in Willow. And when she meets Kane? OMG. The Sparks are just flying. You can feel the attraction and that SOMETHING.

Kane. God. Sexy and handsome actor that is tired of the Hollywood drama and expectations. What he wants is a woman with curves and actual intelligence. And not only a pretty face. When he meets Willows he is sure he has found that something. But as all famous people he has his own secrets and issues. But he is desperate to overcome all of them so he can be with the woman of his dreams.

Harper has touched really sensitive subjects here and she has done it perfectly. Her story line is flawless and characters are amazingly well developed.

5 heavenly stars from me! ❤️

Everything was very fast-paced and kind of superficial. Since I read it in one sitting, I hadn’t even fully processed their meeting by the time they were in love. Other than that, it was alright until ‘the secret’ Kane (mmc) and Mia (mmc’s best friend) were keeping. They made it such a big deal for nothing, they could’ve simply said that Mia was pregnant and it wasn’t his. The secrecy was very unnecessary and very annoying too. I completely understand Mia not wanting to discuss the details nor should she have to, but being so secretive about Kane’s ‘possible paternity’ and hiding it from Willow (fmc) was a far-fetched attempt at drama/ tension.

Body image issues. I have them, you have them, I'm pretty sure every woman I know has them. Doesn't matter your size, it's like it's embedded in your DNA only you don't think anyone else suffers from the same type of issues about their own body.

So when one of my favorite authors introduces me to a new story that demanded she write it because it hit so close to home for her personally, I didn't think, I just pre-ordered that puppy and said to myself "You WILL read this."

From the first page, I couldn't put this book down. The hashtag #IAmWillow was evident from the first page. Willow was beaten down for so long that it was only a matter of time for her to snap. Kane's there to see it and doesn't get it. He sees the beauty that she is and is on a mission to get her to see that and claim her for himself.

This was a beautiful story which includes some Kane drama too that Willow handles beautifully.

But beneath it all, the strength and the beauty Willow finds in herself brings out the beauty that every single one of us women have.

This is a story that was very powerful for me and will be re-read many, many times. I encourage everyone I know to read this story and tell me you don't see a little of Willow in you.

#IAmWillow

Audio Book Review

This book has a good message about loving oneself despite a fat shaming society that places too much emphasis on unrealistic body image. Unfortunately, the weak execution of the plot eclipses the intriguing premise.

Kane is a hunky Hollywood superstar. Willow is an overweight self-conscious doormat. Kane happens to like his women with a little meat on their bones, and he’s instantly attracted to Willow. As the title suggests, she can’t get past her imperfections, and that makes a relationship with the hottie a bit challenging.

The majority of the book is about Willow battling her insecurities. There’s way too much repetition, and it dilutes the impact of the message. The narrative is also overly flowery. I thought I would lose my mind if I had to hear about Kane’s “cerulean orbs” one more time. Who even talks like that?

The end of the book is perhaps the weakest part. When the secret that’s been hinted about since the beginning of the story is finally revealed, it seems illogical. The fact that extremely resourceful individuals would come up with such a ludicrous solution to the problem was the final nail in the coffin of my potential enjoyment.

I listened to the audio book version and it provides one major bonus: Zachary Webber. Le sigh. His narration alone brought my rating up a half star. It made me long for more chapters written from Kane’s point of view. If you think this story might be your cup of tea, I highly recommend going the audio book route.

Zachary Webber is one of my absolute favorite narrators. Rating this book a lot higher than I would have if it weren’t for him.
