Matthew Corbett continues to grow as an investigator and person in the third of the series. Mr. Slaughter, an inmate met in book two escapes Corbett and Greathouse as they escort him to New York from the sanitarium where he was held. Greathouse nearly dies and Corbett is aided by a Seneca tribesman in seeking him.

Slaughter is an amazingly evil and horrifying character and a joy to read. The other new characters in the book Tom, Lark, and Walker are also enjoyable.

The plot and story are good. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Is it possible that a series can get any better?!
Yeah, THIS SERIES.

Mister Slaughter is the 3rd book in the Matthew Corbett series and was excellent!

The book starts off with Matthew Corbett and his partner, Hudson Greathouse being requested to escort a criminal back to New York. He has been residing in an asylum outside of Philadelphia and none of the constables in New York want anything to do with the man.

Matthew and Greathouse both work for the Herrald Agency and are considered "problem solvers" or what we would think of as detectives. They take cases that the constables and magistrate can't solve or want no part of.
The criminal, named Tyranthus Slaughter is a mass murderer, thief and evil piece of shit. You don't even realize how bad this guy is until halfway into the book. I was just shocked!

When Matthew and Greathouse go to pick up Slaughter, all hell breaks loose.

Mister Slaughter involves an amazing chase through the wilderness, devastating deaths, amazing fight scenes, along with tasty pork sausages.
This book had it all!

The one thing that I really loved the most about this book was McCammon taking the main character of Matthew Corbett and making him a bit flawed in this book.

He introduces the character to tough, life decisions that will end up making Matthew better in upcoming books.
I really enjoyed seeing him evolve into so much more of an amazing character when he understands how his consequences will eventually effect innocents.

By the way, the characters in this series feel so real!
I feel like Robert McCammon has wrote someone who can reach out of the pages and touch you, or stab you with a knife!

I just can't speak more highly of this series. The characterization, writing and horror elements are FANTASTIC.
Yes, I'm yelling at you so that you will go and pick up this series NOW.

Far-fetched and gory - another great listen by my favourite narrator.
adventurous mysterious tense medium-paced

Incredible pre-Victorian horror and adventure story. This series does not disappoint.

I really enjoyed this book. A little slow going in the beginning, it did pick up momentum. I like what the author is doing with the series and I like how the characters are developing.

A great entry in the Matthew Corbett series. Matthew has been tasked with transporting a serial killer, Tyranthus Slaughter from an asylum in Philly to New York to stand for trial. Matthew and his associate make some serious mistakes at the beginning as they get taken in by the promise of money and honestly, I don't like either of them too much at that point. It really took a larger chunk of the book for them to redeem themselves (especially Matthew) than I was hoping, but I did enjoy most of the ride otherwise. Slaughter was a totally evil criminal, but in some ways, he felt very black and white to me--as evil as you can make him. Mrs. Such gave me the creeps much more. This was not a mystery the way the others have been, but more about Matthew being on the trail of Slaughter and his accomplices, which sets things up nicely for the next book. Overall, I thought the previous two were scarier and more mysterious, but I still enjoyed this and will definitely continue with the series. Then again, I listened to Edoardo Ballerini narrating this and I've always said that I would listen to him read a shopping list, lol! This was no exception!

Amazing!!!!! Keep them coming. Love Matthew Corbett.

What's not to like (except that McCammon buys into the Lord Cornbury wears a dress myth)? Essentially a serial adventure thriller with magical realism elements set in early 18th century New York. Just waiting for the War to start in the next volume for some villainous French elements to emerge.
