Well......how do I rate this book? It was so sad through most of the book. I found it interesting that the author started this book a few years before the Covid-19 and we could relate to it in many ways. It also made me thankful for the technology we had during our pandemic. The book ends on a happy note. I'm not quick to recommend this one but I did enjoy it.

This was a compelling tale that feels relevant looking back at the height of the pandemic. Pia was a likeable character who you spent your time rooting for, and I was thankful that things ended the way they did. I did think some scenes could have been cut for brevity sake but overall would give this a 4.5 as I found the story to be interesting (albeit sad) and would recommend!

Type of read: Commuter read.
What made me pick it up: Recommended by a friend.
Overall rating: To be honest, I thought the first seven chapters of the book moved reallllllllly slow. Wiseman was building the characters and setting but if this book hadn't been recommended to me by a friend (an avid reader and not one to put up with bs books), I may have stopped reading around chapter 4 or so. With that said, I'm SO happy I stuck it out. Wiseman created a story that was both terrifyingly realistic and completely out of the spectrum of what many would anticipate possible. It's hard to not feel connected to Pia and Bernice's struggle with their own public health crisis and coping. Overall, I really enjoyed 'The Orphan Collector' and would recommend it to others.
