I might have been more open to this had it just been a Katy Keene mini series, but releasing as Archie v.3 sets up different expectations. Though realistically I wouldn't have picked up a Katy Keene mini series so I guess touche. Anyway, boring. I wanted more of Archie & Sabrina.

Meh, I liked the storylines in the first two volumes better.

Okay, so this wasn't bad, but it also wasn't that good. This is definitely a book that centers around Katy Keene. Archie is in it, but for the most part it's about Katy moving to Riverdale and attempting to find herself. I did enjoy the artwork in this one and I have to admit that it was extremely interesting watching all of the Riverdale characters react to someone new being in town. I don't know if I really understood the dynamic that existed between Archie and Katy considering that they really didn't have that much interaction (if you read it, you'll understand what I mean by this). Personally, I would love to see more of Katy Keene. She had a fun personality and it was great to see her come into herself and her love for fashion.

Continuing the story from Archie and Sabrina, this story revives one of the lesser-known Archie characters from yesteryear and reimagines her as an Instagram star and budding fashion designer who takes Riverdale by storm. It's not bad, but if you don't know who Katy Keene already is, you'll be left wondering why Riverdale needed this new character, who completely takes over for a few issues and then exits the stage. If you do know who Katy Keene is, you're kind of reminded of why she's been retired before. There just isn't room for a character like this in a world so fully occupied by Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge and Cheryl Blossom. Still, it's a fun (if forgettable) read.
adventurous fast-paced

The third installment in the Archie Forever line continues the slow merging of the 2015 reboot and the Riverdale TV universe. While the story and art were strong, there was a constant underlying feeling that the whole volume was just an advertisement for the Katy Keene show.

The previous volume, focused on Sabrina, really worked on integrating Sabrina into the regular Archie gang and provided some great narrative drama. Katy's volume introduces Katy... and then quickly finds a way to remove her.

This volume does a passable job continuing the ongoing threads from the previous one, but really acts more like a detour than a continuation. I'm assuming that the next volume will focus on Josie and the Pussycats, and hopefully that will bring the story back to Riverdale. The whole Reggie plot is missing in this arc, which felt awkward.

I enjoyed the character development in this volume, though. It really does a good job at deepening the personalities of the cast, particularly Archie and Veronica. Overall, a good enough read, but it mostly leaves me hoping the next volume gives me more.

The story is quite straightforward, but the artwork WOW!

On a whole, Nick Spencer's trilogy in this series is a fun read and worth checking out just for the aesthetics alone.

My review of Archie
My review of Archie & Sabrina

This was hardly an Archie comic, it's was for all intends and purposes a Katy Keene graphic novel and not a very good one at that.

Rushed, seemed to cut narrative corners and too driven by coincidence. The weakest Archie story since the relaunch.
