Its always the right time to read a story about the depths some will go to inflict horrors upon others and those who do whatever they can to make a difference even while suffering themselves. This novel, like others based on the camps, is built upon the stories of survivors. I am in awe of the resilience and hope of those who have suffered immeasurably. Im also sad that humanity seems to make the same mistakes over and over. We are reminded nonetheless that each of us can choose good...choose to help. We can be better.

I’ve enjoyed similar books like the tattooist of auschwitz, between shades of grey etc. this was included in prime for kindle so I gave it a try. For free, it was alright, overall plot was interesting and I find historical fiction a pleasant way to learn more about history. However, I didn’t find it to be particularly well written - a lot of repetitive phrasing, constantly over describing how the character felt, poor sentence structure and scene building. Although interesting, some of the historical facts differ from other books I’ve read on similar topics and descriptions of the camp and how it ran/how the guards reacted etc at times didn’t  seem realistic. Seems a little like the author chose where to research and where to twist the events to make them fit the story…which wasn’t always appropriate. Overall it was okay, but I’ve read better with similar themes.

I wasn’t 100% sure what I was getting into when reading this book, it was my first encounter of historical fiction and I wondered how I was going to react to it but I was actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

This was an incredible book, and I highly recommend it to anyone - it tells such a heartbreaking tale so beautifully, always emphasising the what seems like impossible strength that the prisoners in Auschwitz had, and the challenges they faced every day just to survive.

This book is loosely based off of a few peoples story - showcasing how they didn’t just survive, but strived everyday to help anyone who needed it to the best of their ability despite the constant fear of being caught, often putting others before then.

I don’t know what else to say other than it was incredible and I cried multiple times, I will be definetly  looking out for more books by this author
