so i read this series out of order. and i really didn't care for ric in book 2...so i'm really glad i went back and read this one. it made both ric and davin so much more likeable and i understand them more now.

davin is pretty incredible. going through what he did and then standing up for victims of similar crimes even though he never wanted the career he had was pretty awesome. he basically became a machine - not really living after what happened 8 years ago.

at the beginning of this book, i still didn't like ric that much. he was pretty stand-offish and shut down. we learn that it's because he's hurting so bad. i'm a little confused as to why he didn't confront davin for those 8 years when he finally found him. their love seemed to be once in a lifetime and that's not something not to go after.

i'm not a fan of bdsm partially because i don't like that 'yes, master' stuff...i really liked that he wanted to be called by his name. that was a big plus for me.

the writing was good as was the character development. the ending sets up book 3 nicely! (now off to read book 2 again!!)

Review of 2nd edition:

I read the first edition of this book twice, but it’s been a couple of years. There are a couple of places in this second edition that I know are different but for the most part, because I know this story and the series so well, I can’t point to all the new additions with certainty. I can say the book does seem to flow a little better.

When I look back at the date I read the first edition, it seems like so long ago…this series has been a part of my life for over six years and I’ve read, re-read, and dissected it many times. I actually read book two first and immediately reached out to Jessie because that book is in my top ten all-time favorites. Unbeknownst to me I already had this book on my kindle waiting to be read.

It’s hard for me to review this book now without giving spoilers away for the rest of the series. These men play such pivotal roles in the rest of the series and Ric especially interacts with other characters so well it’s hard to see him in this first light.

Ric and Davin are soulmates as proven by the eight years of separation that didn’t lessen their love for each other. I love the way they take care of each other and seamlessly fit together. My favorite scene, still, is their ‘truth time’ (it’s a bit spoilery but magical and you’ll know when you read it so I won’t give away more than that).

As I’ve already alluded to, the guys continue to be major characters in the rest of this series which I highly recommend.

Love found, love lost, love found again. Opposites attract right? That's what Davin and Alaric have been since the beginning but it did not stop them from falling in love while still in high school. Lies and a heartbreaking tragedy pulls them apart, but eight years later another tragedy throws them together again. Alaric has never stopped loving Davin and when the truth comes out he learns that Davin never stopped loving him either. Working together they set out to find out what Alaric's brother was up to before he was murdered. Knowing they still love each other doesn't erase the past eight years of hurt but taking it one day at a time they pull their lives together to be happy with each other again.

2nd Edition- loved it just as much if not more than the first time around. Moving my rating up to 4.5-5 with this reading- I liked the changes or better yet the more explanation of the events without having a completely different story

I really enjoyed this book and it’s very different storyline. I’m not a big D/s fan but the elements of it in this book are not too extreme or hard for me to take.

At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like the book as I felt like I came in in the middle of something. The beginning felt like I was a couple chapters in and there was something going on I should already know about. It was disorienting. But as I continued I got more involved in the story and really liked Davin and Alaric. Their way back to each other after an eight year separation seems to go a bit too smoothly, especially given what Davin believed happened to cause the split.

The emotional read. Both MCs have history they’d love to go back and change and their journey makes for a good read. It seems the Davin handles his trauma a bit too well, almost unrealistically well given how traumatic it was and how it so significantly altered his life. Could someone be that well adjusted? I’m not sure. But the book is worth reading. Definitely recommend.

Great story which badly needs another proofread

This could have been a five star read but there's just too many grammatical errors, typos and proofing mistakes to allow it that rating.

It has all the bones of being brilliant, a good second chance romance, a mystery/criminal element, great characters and a strong setting with a solid supporting cast but I just keep cringing at the silly errors - where instead of were, they're not their etc - as well as missing words or sentences which weren't complete.

However, that might not bother others so this is a story worth reading, I liked both Alaric and Devin and they had a powerful dynamic together.

Lots of editing issues, but nothing HUGELY distracting. Timeline was so very confusing. Alaric was kind of a prick of epic proportions. And yet I really kind of liked it.

Loved this book. It is full of emotion and action. Plenty of romance and a second chance at forever. I am definitely hooked on Jessie's books now. 5 stars.
