Once I started this book I couldn't put it down! Its a great story and superbly written. And surprisingly their farm comes to my local market every weekend! Farm fresh eggs are amazing and now I'm spoiled for life.

Forest is a great story teller! His personal account of saving his family farm is inspirational and full of interesting characters with believable quirks. I was pleasantly surprised to read references to Salitin and also several towns I was familiar with from my days living in a nearby area. If you don't already raise your own food or buy from local farmers, this will make you want to?

This is a fantastic book, written with good humor and a healthy dose of perspective. If you've seen Ratatouille, you'll understand. Forrest graduates from college and returns to the family farm, just before the most recent slow food movement really takes off. He writes of his experiences selling at local farmers markets and raising food for the first time. I loved the descriptions of how the land healed as time passed and how he made his dreams real with hard work and data-based decision making:-)

Growing up, my mom would always talk about life on the farm and how farming has changed for the worse. This story takes it back to local farming, where it isn't about getting ahead, making profits or being a part of the "organic movement." This is about a man who wanted to make the family farm into a life sustaining place, a place where the goal was to be a part of the land, to nurture and to give it rest. An excellent book as well as noble way of living.
