Alan Turing: The Enigma: The Book That Inspired the Film The Imitation Game

The most intriguing part of the Turin story for me was always going to be it's end. What road led to his suicide? What does this say about British society's attitudes towards homosexuality in the 1950's? What have we learnt since then and ultimately, what was Turin's legacy? All of these questions are touched upon in Andrew Hodges lengthy biography. But what is most emphatically not 'touched upon' is maths. Maths maths maths maths maths maths maths. The book simply has too much material which is centred around the theory of mathematics. Most of this will go over your head unless you've studied the subject and consequently, there is little to glean from the 700-odd pages of Hodges work for the non-mathematician. Disappointing.
