Disappointing! The time-travel/Groundhog Day theme usually isn't my thing but I do think it worked well here. But there were too many extra characters, a lot of detail that didn't contribute anything, and I felt ultimately like a lot of what I read didn't matter. It was sweet and the characters were fairly fleshed out for what essentially takes place over a few days.
I absolutely hated the ending!! They spent such a long time having a one-day fight immediately after confessing their feelings and starting their relationship, made grand gestures to each other, and then got engaged six months later. I'm very good at suspending reality, but holy shit

I thought the premise of a groundhog day type scenario sounded just up my alley. Unfortunately this is only done about 3 times before it is abandoned. There were way too many characters who really didn't add much to the story, and also I was expecting so much more from the romance. I didn't really particularly like Andrew or Mae, they were just kind of bland characters. I was way more invested in Theo, Andrew's younger brother, and he was barely a focus. It just seemed so...boring and I was not at all invested in the main relationship. It was just bizarre and boring and I kept waiting for something more to happen, like some kind of twist, only for it to never come. I have really enjoyed some of the past Christina Lauren books I read and I was excited for a holiday setting, but this was not for me and wasn't particularly memorable.

Maelyn Jones finds herself in a do-over loop following Christmas with her family. This happens after she puts out to the universe the big question of what would make her happy. We then follow her antics if trying to do what she thinks will make her happy.

This book is Groundhog's Day meets a Hallmark Christmas movie. The authors even reference Groundhog's Day multiple times. I enjoyed the start of the book. I could tell where this was going, but didn't really mind. Funny thing happened though, I really began to dislike the main character.

She has two brothers kind of into her but not totally. And she's really annoying about all of it. The end.

Decent romance with sweet quirky characters. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of time travel twists in books. I found myself liking some of the supporting characters more than the main ones.

Honestly I loved the premise of this book. I loved seeing how Mae went from being cautious and regretting all of her decisions and then, because of a wish, being able to find her confidence through a time loop a la Groundhog Day.
What fell short of this for me was the romance (although i should have seen that coming). The pairing seemed good and while I couldn't care less for the steamy scenes, there was nothing going on that seemed to be dangerous until the very end.
What bothered me was
the engagement after dating after only six months. Yes, I understand that you guys feel more in love than your parents did, but just having mindblowing sex and having known each other all your lives is not the recipe for a happily ever after.

Otherwise, it was a cute story with a lot of holiday cheer.

I think the hype made me expect so much from this book and I was disappointed when it didn’t meet my expectations. The setting was described beautifully but some plot points could have been explained better or edited differently. I wanted to root for Mae and the somewhat obvious love interest
Andrew
but I just couldn’t see myself doing so when I didn’t have a backstory on the two to begin with - plus Mae tells us he is all these personality traits but it’s never shown in the book. I really wanted to like this but 2/2.5 stars seems like where I’m at with this one. Plus the “spice” is mild at best.
