This book is pretty much exactly what you'd expect!

A decent thriller, slightly cheesy and over the top but it gets the job done.

The beginning of this book is great! However, the changing characters were a bit hard to keep up with for a long car trip. The suspense and the premise of the book were clearly Coben at his best. I had a little trouble understanding the roles of some of the students involved and some release of reality is required to fit it all together--- that said, I enjoyed the book very much.

This was surprisingly entertaining. I don’t read much crime fiction, but my dad was a big fan of Harlan Coben, Lee Child, Michael Connelly, etc. I sometimes pick up one of their books as a kind of nod to dad’s memory. Connelly has really lost his edge, so I rarely bother with his books anymore. This was my first Coben novel, and while it’s far fetched and completely unbelievable, it’s nevertheless entertaining and the plot moves quickly. Things start to crumble a bit in the latter half, and the narrative takes a turn toward the absurd. The main character is also kind of a macho “man’s man”(TM) rogue cop, which is about the stalest trope in the book. Still, there’s a certain pull to the mystery and anticipation to see who lives and who dies. Some of the narrative threads are not tied up particularly well and others are resolved far too easily, but if you’re aiming for some light entertainment that sees you through a couple of days, this might be the story for you.

Harlan Coban has recently become a go-to crime, mystery author for me. Don’t Let Go started strong and had page-turning potential, but I found that the reveals dragged out too long and the story lost some momentum. I didn’t feel as invested in the end, even though I still had to know what happened. A satisfying read, overall.
