Jesus Christ on a bike this was such a rollercoaster! I was on edge every single page and boy did I like it but please someone give Aria a break. She can't catch her breath, my poor girl. I love how strong she's become, how confident and powerful she's getting. She's getting smart at the war game and I'm loving it. I also loved that Knox finally got his shit together (kinda) and finally supports Aria. It took him A LOT but boy was it satisfying.
I have to admit that this book broke my heart about 7464821 times, it even made me cry but still loved it.
The only thing that I'd say I didn't like is that some parts felt rushed but still a fantastic book.
Btw, I love Aria and Esme's friendship!! I love my girls!! ❤️❤️❤️

This books was everything I hoped for. I actually LOVED KNOX. We got to see another side of him that I’ve been wanting to see. I also loved the growth that Aria has shown through pain and death even tho it sucks, it made her so strong! I wish I could have seen more of the boys, but seeing Aria’s new friends and their relationship with each other was absolutely worth it! I loved this and I can’t wait for what’s next to come!! ✨

After the ridiculousness of the first book, I did not have high hopes for this series. But starting with book 2, this series has gotten so good. I almost took this book down slightly from the last one, simply because it's way too long. I found myself skimming some bits because not much eas happening. But considering how much of my brain this has taken up, and how much of my spare time is spent contemplating this story, I think it deserves a 4.

Crazy amount of spoilers below. I'm not going to bother tagging. Read at your own risk.

I have had a lot of thoughts reading this series, and in this book I decided to write some down.

I'm about 40% into book 4 and I'm actually getting to a point where I don't think I can watch Aria and/or Knox make another mistake or fuck each other over again.
She just miscarried (which was heartbreaking but I loved how Knox supported her) and then she slaughtered that keep of people who were apparently innocent.
Now she's drowning in guilt.

What I thought was particularly interesting though is that he did not just immediately tell her he was coming for her and he'd kill her or cage her for her sins. Instead he said if she did it again, he'd cage her. And for now he just told her not to be the villain. And lectured her on the reality of what she just did. He didn't react with rage. So maybe he's growing?

I don't know. This is the issue with series like this. It's so ridiculously long. They have to fill those pages with something and so the characters can't grow too much. They have to keep failing. And I believe that's realistic, but it's hard to read for this long. Altogether, I've read 2100 pages of this series, and I need to start seeing something new soon. I'm ready for them to finally join forces. Or have a legitimate victory of some sort.

I believe I read that this is a 7-book series with 5 out now and no timelines for 6 and 7. I'm starting to worry I'll get to the end of 5 and still feel like not much has changed since she entered the Nine Realms and started waging war.

Now that I've finished, whew. I cried a couple times in this book. That's really rare for me.
  • Pretty sure she's half witch, quarter dragon, quarter phoenix. I find it crazy that a full 4 books in we still don't know for sure what she is.
  • He made a comment like 60% in I think about being incapable of the emotion of love. But in the last third of the book he pours out his heart so much. I can't wait for the moment he realizes that this is love. Not only is he capable of loving, he already does.
  • No big boom reveals of how she's been running the show the whole time. Instead we kind of got to see her plans in advance. And the twists we did get of plans we didn't know about (her being clay, for example) weren't as huge, but were super satisfying.
  • This book has the pregnancy trope, which is hands down my least favorite, but it did it well. And I think we'll have it again soon and hopefully it'll be done well again. Her miscarriages were obviously heartbreaking, but again, done so well.
  • She made a comment after the miscarriages that he was interring the babies in a place she'd never be allowed to see them. I want him to remember that and prove her wrong.
  • We've had a lot of death, but none that really hurt the reader. Her babies was the worst so far. She has so many sisters and we get so little page time with them that their deaths just don't mean much. Same with Gideon. I'm waiting for someone to die that devestates. But I'm not sure how much more she can take. Just don't kill Esme! (Maybe Lore? He's the Ridoc of this series, and I think Ridoc will be killed off too... iykyk)
  • AT WHAT POINT WILL SHE FINALLY REALIZE WHAT "YOU ARE THE SUN" MEANS?????? Like, seriously. She still seems to think she has to have and raise a son and then send him to fight Hecate. She's smarter than this!

Time for her to meet her father's side of the family and deal with Aden. Part of me wants them to be amazing and finally give her the love she's never gotten, but I also like seeing her bring down hell on people, so maybe I'd prefer them to continue in a long line of disappointment. Besides, she has Esme. And Esme is everything.

Book 5, here I come...

This series just keeps getting better! I was hesitant to start it because the first few were just okay, but this took some twists and while it still has the spice, it wasn't as much as the first few books.
