Love, love, loved this! Whilst the narration was a little underwhelming, the story carried it through. You can clearly tell this is one of Klunes earliest pieces as the writing style seemed clumsy, repetitive and amateur at times, however the story and the characters more than made up for it! This took me back to my twilight days, as it had that same feeling to it.
I just want to be a part of the Bennett pack 🥰

Love the narration style, and the plot is actually decent but at one point it just gets repetitive. I've had enough about the "you're special" scenes when the fourth one came like, 40% into the book. It would be more interesting had we learned more about what the wolves are up to, hell, even a glimpse of how the antagonist is moving throughout the story would've felt nice, too.

Also, I have a weird feeling reading about female characters in this book. They're always either maternal, or hostile. Nothing in between. I don't think the author is doing it maliciously, I just genuinely think this is how he really views women. I just get uncomfortable when the female characters in this book got brought up because it's always some shit about how they don't belong to the protagnist which???

The book could've been 200 pages shorter, honestly. However, with all that being said, this does intrigue me to read the next book, so we'll see if anything changes (I highly doubt it).

"And then he was all standing there and he didn’t see me at first because I’m getting so good at hunting. I was all like rawr and grr but then I smelled it again and it was him and it was all kaboom! I don’t even know! I don’t even know! You gotta smell him and then tell me why it’s all candy canes and pinecones and epic and awesome." - Joe Bennett

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/ 5 stars

By far, the easiest #5starrating I have ever given.

This book was perfect from start to finish.

Narrated in a #firstpersonPOV the book focuses on the collision of the real world with the supernatural forces.

The #MMC #OxMatherson is a regular boy who's father's words leave him doubting himself all his life. Enter our second #MMC #JoeBennett who's past plagues him and leaves him with so much of trauma.

I loved how these two bonded. Their friendship turns into something much more powerful over the years all of which is so intricately described.

One can quite literally feel the growth of the characters and it's written in a way that you can relate to.

I fell in love with the storyline, the world building, the main characters, the side characters and the tropes ( #Agegap , #WerewolfXHuman , #LGBTQ+rep #foundfamily , #smalltownromance to name a few)

There is something so special when you know a character so deeply. Their trauma, emotions and feelings become all your own. What they go through, the changes in their life and their losses become all yours and it's just one of the many magical things about reading.

I laughed, cried, got angry and faced down a multitude of emotions in the 28 hours it took me to read this book but this too goes to the list of books I will forever recommend ❤️

And now excuse me while I go try to cure the #bookhangover

I have some mixed feelings about this book. I couldn't get over the age gap in the beginning, the back of the book gives away WAY too much so don't read it if you hate spoilers. I thought the characters were well written but it was a little over dramatic and kinda gave Teen Wolf vibes. This is very different from the books TJ Kline is known for, but his writing style feels the same in a lot of ways.

DID NOT FINISH: 45%

The first half of this book had be in complete indecision. I've never been big on the whole Alpha, pack thing but I'd heard good things about this so I wanted to give it a try. I'm glad I did try it. The writing style is great and fresh but the thing with Joe's age just had me feeling quite icky about the whole thing. At about the midway point I realised that I just wasn't really that invested anymore:

Spoilers vvv

I really struggled with the death of Ox's mother and then Joe's father. Something about happening one after the other like that just really took me out of the story. Joe's decision to leave really pissed me off too so I had to stop reading at that point.

I wanted to see more of Gordo. I was genuinely more interested in his story than Ox's.

Overall I think this book just wasn't for me but I'm glad I gave it a try :)

I liked this writing style. You can feel the emotions through the page in a way I feel like I’ve only ever really gotten from audio books so it was fun to read it on a page. Big feelings of the characters usually leads to more repetition of words - almost like how I imagine dogs think..curious no? I could really feel the love and hurt, the excitement and fear, the happiness and gut wrenching sorrow through the pages.

I hope Ox lives forever - I love him. Watching him gain his confidence was so heartwarming. When he had that moment realizing that family can be chosen it was absolutely wholesome. Elizabeth is such a sweet mom and is genuine with everyone. Mark is mysterious and I want to know more every time he is brought up. Joe, Carter, Kelly, and Gordo I swear I wanted to hate but just couldn’t. Jury is still out on Robbie so stay tuned. The guys from the garage and Jessie are such a fun group to watch develop into what they are by the end and I can only imagine what I’d do in their shoes.

I wish I had the next book to read immediately after!
