Never in my life did i think I’d cry to a book more than i did the song of achilles but oh my god. Seeing as this is my first TJ Klune book i had no expectations at all but my god his writing just speaks to you, its like the words lift of the page and i can hear Oxnard’s song through the book. I got this book mostly for the queer storyline with the supernatural element but that doesn’t even begin to cover how profound this book really is. Like from the first chapter you can feel every emotion so deeply and strongly and the characters feel so alive. I’m 100% going to read Ravensong and other Klune series as well.

I really wanted to not drop this book. For being for adults, it felt very childish. I figured it might just be that we're following a child but. I think this just isnt written in a way I could enjoy. Maybe the narrators performance wasnt working either, but this was just a major disappointment.
The unnecessarily large age gap really took me out of the story, as did the repetitive writing style.

When I picked this book up I was expecting a decent shifter book with some sex and angst thrown in but I decided to read it because of the glowing reviews it had. And Good Lord those reviews weren't lying. This book took me on a roller coaster of emotions and I did not want to set it down. I became a hermit and didn't watch t.v. or play video games just so I could keep reading. It was just one of the best books I have ever read and I STRONGLY urge everyone to give it a try. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I cannot explain adequately the Rollercoaster of emotion and just how loveable all the characters are.
I went from almost crying to laughing more than once as I fell in love with the characters. And not just the MC but the supporting characters were built out in their own right each having moments that endeared them to me so much.
Highly reccomend.
