The age gap? JAIL. The story was good otherwise. Weird way to end it though.

I picked this book up expecting a lighthearted, slightly angsty paranormal romance. That's what the summary suggests! Hot werewolf men in love, with a side of found family.
The summary lied.
When I had already cried twice in the first 100 pages, and I still had 900 to go, I knew I was in for a ride. I literally downloaded a counting app to keep track of how often I shed tears while reading this.
Final Wolfsong Cry Count: 10.
This book changed my brain chemistry. Somehow it will probably end up being the best book I read this year. I mean, who writes like that??
How am I supposed to not spend the rest of my every waking moments thinking about Oxnard Matheson and green relief and the feeling of home???
Hello???? What do I even do now????? I start thinking too hard about this book and then I cry!!!!
Thank you TJ Klune. I'm sorry I DNF'd the House on the Cerulean Sea. I promise I will read it someday. I'm sold on your writing now.

Couldn't get past the age gap Twilight reminiscent relationships.
Cons:
- reads like a fan fiction, which isn’t inherently a con, but the pacing is really strange and feels like something that’s being updated weekly or monthly; the plot is this amorphous thing being added onto sporadically lol. I couldn’t feel the beginning-middle-end act structure while reading.
- very insistent on the alpha wolf thing, which I’m usually pretty cool with but idk… maybe just don’t listen to the audiobook lmao
- epilogue sex. Bro lowkey I was waiting for that sex scene the whole book and all I got was an epilogue. Unbelievable.
- I liked the repetition for a while and then it was too goddamn much. Soap bubbles. Give him shit all his life. Dreams & pain. Men don’t cry so I must not be a man. Epic and awesome. I really didn’t need to keep hearing epic and awesome.
- didn’t love the age gap!
Pros:
- I fucking love Ox, especially in the beginning. I cried a couple times listening to this book and it was ALL in the first 20%
- the setting is really strong, especially in the beginning
- tbh just read the first like 30% of the book and stop when the big event happens. You’ll know.
- oh man I just really loved Ox.
I was gonna give this 4 stars but I just realized I have way more cons than pros :( 3 stars it is.
Still enjoyed thoroughly! I will probably read the rest of the series lol. Expect the pacing of a fan fiction but with much better prose & dialogue, you might enjoy it too.

Personally cannot get past the weird connotations of the age gap. It was written brotherly especially due to the younger one being a child and the it turned romantic and made me feel uncomfy especially when the main character realizes he’s turned on by seeing a high schooler shirtless while he’s the age of a grad student in a masters program.

Probably one of the best found families I have ever read.
I loved the wiring style and the way you could be a part of Ox's growth through his thoughts and the way they became more clear, descriptive and self-assured. I was hooked for ¾ of the book, couldn't set it down. The age gap - a play with fire, but I think after all it worked? Idk what it was about the end but something about it made me switch my opinion back from 5 stars. It felt too fast, too small in a way, for the overall big themes in this book.
