I cried so much. I also laughed a lot. This book was an emotional rollercoaster for me. The writing style was very unique, but I really loved it.

*Listened to the audiobook*

So. I am very conflicted with this book. Objectively, I did not really like this book. However, I did finish it and will be reading the rest of the series.

Spoiler Starting strong with how I hated that Joe was 12 or smt when they met. Gross. And he basically wolf-proposed to Ox at 12. I know that they only get together when he is 17 (and Ox is 21 or smt, which is still a bit weird...) but I also hated that the romance aspect started that young. And I know Joe initiated and Ox didn't reciprocate until much later, but idk. Klune could have done a lot of different things, but hint at the romance that young, and have everyone say that they could predict it that young, was really weird. And like, still. 17 and 21 is still sus (doesn't matter that they don't have sex. Sex is not a defining characteristic of a relationship).

ALSO? Joe growls a LOT as a kid and while that is a normal werewolf book thing, I thought it was WILD. What 12 year-old growls? And a 12 year old alpha? Goofy af. My friends and I made it an inside joke because of goofy of a concept that is.

I loved the side characters, though. Thomas, Elizabeth? Tanner, Chris, Riko???? GORDO???? CARTER AND KELLY???? ROBBIE MY BELOVED???? I am obsessed with Carter. They were all so well-developed and interesting. And had normal human emotions. I loved it so much??? They were so good. Gordo especially. Love a dad figure who is actually a homie. He is so real. I adore him. No flaws there. And he is an ADULT.

A major weird thing for me, especially with the audiobook, was the repetition. The amount of times "he said" would be repeated was INSANE. I know tags are important on occasion and can be emphasized for added meaning, but that was a LOT. I saw a review that the writing style was pretentious, and I 100% agree. SO much repetition, not just with "he said," but also the soap bubble story and the dad giving him shit. I know they are important for the character and their meaning does change over the span of the book, but it felt like the author wrote several segments and really didn't want you to forget the important stuff. I did read it over a month or two, but that was excessive even for me. So much of the same word and story repetition (which, by the way, you are supposed to keep to the 3 rule or else the reader gets frustrated). I died a little bit every passage where it happened. But oh well. Such is the style.

Overall, I kinda liked the book? I loved the side characters, LOVED that there was a build-up for Robert for his death to be super quick (he did not deserve fanfare tbh I loved it). I did not love the writing style, but I did not always hate it. Mostly, I remembered that I never really liked werewolf books because of alphas and stuff (hate omegaverse), but it was fine. I will be reading the other books, but I need more Gordo content.

10/10

Estoy deseandolo.
