I just didn't see the point. Well, that's not true. I guess the point was to make everyone feel good by seeing prominent Marvel teams (and Spidey - was he on a team when this was written? Who can tell?) being nice to the sick man who happens to have acquired some very serious and useful powers. I guess I just didn't get much out of the arc - I didn't feel an emotional connection to the main character (Dennis?). And I have to wonder about the supers' motives - if he was some sick schmo with no powers, would they have been as involved? While I'm nitpicking, I thought that the orphan/irresponsible use of his powers angles a little too on the nose when Spider-Man was so heavily involved.

Someone recommended this to me a long time ago and though I wasn't as excited about it as they were, it was still good. It's touching, and I can see that they were trying to get that "every man" feeling that's been done in series like "Marvels" and "Astro City" and the "Frontline" stuff they do for Marvel events, like what's going on with normal people while all this crazy superhero stuff was happening. I think my favorite part was Wolverine hanging out with a child who had lost her parents who was acting out. He handles it as you would expect him to and she appreciates him being "real" and not coddling her.

I thought the Avengers showing up was a bit much. Loved the covers though.

It starts out cliché with a man with a job that makes him make difficult choices and taking care of a child dealing with trauma and the superheroics are used as a backdrop to flesh out the main story that shines beautifully: A man is given a month to live and decides to make every second count. A friend recommended it to me and feeling sour tonight I decided to read it and it's too damn touching. I thought he'd be another forgettable character but Dennis Sykes story is amazing and Rick Remender tugged the hell outta my heart strings

A story about a man with some heavy burders and unhappy with how he's led his life takes a risk, saves a life, and contracts terminal cancer plus some amazing superpowers for his trouble. He is called on to save the galaxy and other rather heavy-handed and blatant moments of heroism but ends up being a good story about the worth of a person.
