Earlier this year, I had forayed into reading Wuthering Heights, and while I found it to be odd, I also enjoyed how different it was from most books of that period. Finishing the book, I turned to reading Jane Eyre, but was unable to finish the first chapter.
Reading this adaption of the famous classic has given me an idea of the story’s plot and shows just how different this story is from the author’s sister’s work. Wuthering Heights was dark and strange. Jane Eyre, however, was lighter and more hopeful, despite Jane’s dismal beginnings. Jane shone through the story with her strong will and her perseverance, no matter how bad her circumstances became. Her independence is admiral. Full of mystery and tension, the plot is just quick enough to keep the reader engaged. However, at times, it moved a bit too slow for my taste.
Overall, this adaptation of Jane Eyre is not only beautiful with its excellent drawings, but fascinating, with its dive into the past, bringing the characters to life in period-accurate clothing and hairstyles.
NOTE: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley for review purposes only. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Okay, I'll admit, I love Jane Eyre; it's possibly one of my favourite books of all time, so when I find an adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's classic, I know I need to read it. And Manga Classics: Jane Eyre was on my list. As an adaptation, it's a decent one; featuring scenes everyone knows as well as scenes some adaptations tend to forget or brush past (the fortune-teller). This makes it feel fuller and more detailed, standing out as an adaptation that celebrates the original novel and makes it accessible to those who may find Bronte's novel hard to read. The manga flows well and does not deviate far from the original material.
Overall, Manga Classics: Jane Eyre was a brilliant read with beautiful illustrations that encapsulate the gothic feel of the original novel making it perfect for any graphic novel fan. Those who love Charlotte Bronte's original masterpiece will love how Manga Classic stays faithful to her words and will like how the novel has been brought to life.
Thank you, NetGalley and UDON Entertainment for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This was a different way to read the classic, Jane Eyre. It was my first Manga book and I really enjoyed it! I loved the illustrations, the facial expressions were amazing. I think this would be a great book for my middle school students to get a taste of a classic! Although I do not agree with the ending, I still enjoyed it.
I think these classics being turned into manga are a great idea. Some of the classics are hard to get into but with manga editions they are much more enjoyable. I remember being age 13-14 and having a hard time getting into books. Especially the classics but I loved manga. I would fly through them the same way I do 400+ page novels now.
When I started reading this edition of Jane Eyre I instantly fell in love with the art. It was really interesting to see the time period with the story in manga form. The artist put a lot of expression into the pages to convey the story and angst that flows from the classic novel. It’s a perfect book for a reader who loves classics and also loves manga. I would definitely buy this for a friend.

This particular classic in manga format didn't draw me in quite as much as Les Miserables in manga format, but I still enjoyed this book. Jane frustrated me many many times, but I guess her behavior was normal during that time period. Once again, the illustrations were fantastic. The additional information provided regarding the adaption helped understand the thought process. I love reading the manga novels before deciding to tackle the actual classic since classics are a hit or miss for me. Most of the time, I don't like the original classics. The mangas help me get a first impression and understand the storyline, especially of those old 19th century classics.

I'll start this by saying I haven't read Jane Eyre yet. I probably will now since this manga and another retelling I read recently were enjoyable. While I know it isn't really possible to fit a whole book into a manga easily, I enjoyed this one. It didn't feel rushed or forced in any way. It says that the artwork isn't the final for my review copy, but I felt the art was well done. I'm looking forward to reading more of these.
I absolutely adore the story of Jane Eyre! It is one of my favourite books portrayed one of literatures most amazing female characters Jane Eyre. The magna edition makes this beautiful tale so accessible for everyone! The drawings are brilliant, very accurate of the time period the tale is located and the story plot is extremely true to the book!
The original version will always be 5 stars for me, therefore I have to give this one 4 stars!

Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books that I've read. It's one of those books that I reread every year at least once. And thank you to NetGalley for a copy of Manga Classics: Jane Eyre.
The story of Jane Eyre is wonderful. It's about a young girl who is mistreated by her relatives after being orphaned. She is sent away from them to a school for children and learns to grow up quickly. The love between Jane and Mr. Rochester is phenomenal. But we all know the story of Jane Eyre.
The Manga Classic: Jane Eyre is exceptionally done. I love the artwork. The chibi style brings something new to a classical book. The art brings alive the story that I love. I do miss some of the things that you will never get when reading a GN/Manga that you get from reading a full length novel, but it was extremely well done.
I would recommend this book to anyone young or old.

A booklover but didn’t ever heard of Jane Eyre – that’s a rare find. I think manga adaption of such classic is a hit among those who are not into reading classics but still want to know the story. It’s cute, it’s enjoyable and it’s short. The only drawback is to not containing the details which can be the actual beauty of classic literature writing.
This is my first ever manga. Before that I struggled a lot to read mangas but could not finish them. I was not sure if I was reading in right direction. Jane Eyre manga edition comes with a manga reading directory and finally makes my life easier and makes me fall into love with manga.
Jane is an orphan from the very start of the book but portrays a determined character of a lady (though she’s been such cutesy illustrated) who faces obstacles of life without any hesitation. Being such limited detailed character discussion , the manga does not fail to show her as an inspiration to the people. She is strong and aspiring. There are so many versions of Jane Eyre. They often fail to carry the real essence of this powerful novel but this manga did not do that. It’s able to connect the readers with the story and engross them into it despite of not giving enough details to connect with the scenes. That’s a success.
The illustrations are very cute but the portrayal of Jane Eyre makes look her tiny and younger sibling and I felt very sympathetic to her circumstances but very proud of her decisions made through all over the chapters. As a first Manga reader Jane looks like a teenager to me (barely 13 or 14) which was irksome. The chemistry between Mr. Rochester and Jane seems legit yet slightly unique for the illustration maybe. But that’s not an obstacle to enjoy the story. Still there are a lack of backstory of Mr. Rochester’s secret which could be an interesting part of the manga.
I would like to give the manga a solid 4 stars for it’s story, dialogue, illustration. As I said if someone is a fan of detailed storytelling he/she may not catch the beauty underlying of such classic adaption but it can be a great read for middle grads and quick readers.
