I did greatly enjoy this book, the manga had a light and hopeful tone to it, I highly recommend it to introduce the classic Jane Eyre from older children up, the drawings are absolutely adorable, and Jane is a nice role model for both male and female, she relies in herself and at the same time she understands how being in love doesn’t make less of her.

Thank you NetGalley for the free ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Jane Eyre is my favorite work of classic literature. I’m happy to say that this is a very accessible edition of the work. It’s an easy read that is mostly true to the original book, and since it is in a manga format, it would likely be less overwhelming for many people to read. The e-book was a little difficult to read since it’s a manga (back to front), but it wasn’t the most difficult.

I really enjoyed the art style overall. The illustrator did a good job at drawing the settings and using descriptions from the book to capture the general atmosphere and mood of the work. The illustrations really brought this story to life in a meaningful way.

I only had a few things I disliked about this work. There were some instances of awkward wording throughout the manga (one example was “on equality with them”). Grace Poole was illustrated as a young and beautiful woman, but in the book she is explicitly described as older and not attractive. Similarly, Jane is supposed to be very plain, but she is drawn to be quite lovely. Mr. Rochester isn’t supposed to be handsome at all (major plot point), but he is drawn in a very handsome way. Now it might just be that it’s difficult to create ugly, non-cute characters in a manga style, but I still would have preferred some changes to the depictions of these characters. I also felt that this version wasn’t true to the intent of the book in one place in particular: when St. John proposes to Jane. Jane was firm the whole time about refusing, but in this version she seems to give in for a bit – part of Jane’s character is that she’s firm with what she believes and is true to herself, so I think this was misrepresented in this particular scene of this version.

For anyone who has felt intimidated or uninterested in sitting down and reading Jane Eyre, I highly recommend this version of the work. Except for a few minor things, this is very true to the novel and is a great take on a classic.

I received a complimentary copy of this work through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Believe it or not, but I only recently became accustomed with the complete story of Jane Eyre. For some reason, it was completely glossed over in school and I never read it, or even watched a movie. The crazy wife in the attic part, however, I was aware of, as I think is everyone, whether they want to or not.

I’ve been reading the manga classics as they are being published and overall I’ve quite enjoyed them. For myself they do not replace the original works, but more act as an interpretation, as you would also watch a movie adaptation (they would also take about the same time, as manga makes for easy and fast reading). For people who would be less inclined to actually read the classics, I think it is a perfect way to get to know the stories. I liked this adaptation of Jane Eyre, the drawings and style are as I’ve come to expect them and the main points of the story, as far as I’m able to judge this, are conveyed well through the manga.

A nice reading experience. Would recommend.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read this as an eARC (even though this book has been published for years...) and enjoyed my experience as a newbie to manga. [I have several of these that I have read within a few days of each other so I will not vary my review from those.]

Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books that I've read. It's one of those books that I reread every year at least once. And thank you to NetGalley for a copy of Manga Classics: Jane Eyre.

The story of Jane Eyre is wonderful. It's about a young girl who is mistreated by her relatives after being orphaned. She is sent away from them to a school for children and learns to grow up quickly. The love between Jane and Mr. Rochester is phenomenal. But we all know the story of Jane Eyre.

The Manga Classic: Jane Eyre is exceptionally done. I love the artwork. The chibi style brings something new to a classical book. The art brings alive the story that I love. I do miss some of the things that you will never get when reading a GN/Manga that you get from reading a full length novel, but it was extremely well done.

I would recommend this book to anyone young or old.

This manga version of Jane Eyre perfectly captures the mood of the classic, with thoughtful prose and gorgeous illustrations. Young Jane's strength and determination is captured brilliantly. This is true to the original, and done very tastefully.

Overall, I have found the Manga Classics series to be outstanding (Jane Eyre, the Scarlet Letter) or extremely lacking (Emma, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice). The great ones are enough to keep me reading all of the books in this classics series as they are made available.

Manga Classics: Jane Eyre is a great manga version of the classic, true to the original and beautifully done.. I would highly recommend this for lovers of the original, as well as those who have not yet read the book.

Reading this reminded me of all the problems I had with the original story... But as this isn't a review of the original story I won't get into all that now.

This manga edition more than does the original story justice, managing to tell such a detailed story without feeling rushed or leaving large holes in the narrative. I feel like even if you weren't familiar with the original tale you would be able to read this and get all of (or at least most of) the tale without trouble.

The story is drawn well, the panels easy to follow and read. Obviously since it's traditional manga and told right to left it might take some getting used to for someone new to the format but the layout of this book is relatively easy to follow and even a newbie could pick it up with ease.

It was a quicker read than I expected (in a good way; I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I was drawn in and the ease with which the pages flew by) and I found myself quite enraptured with the tale and the telling of it.

As mentioned, I have issues with the story itself but found it much more enjoyable in this format. I would definitely reread this edition and recommend it both to those seeking to acquaint themselves with Bronte's story for the first time as well as those already familiar with (and in love with) the tale. Solid five stars from me.

This is a lovely addition to the Jane Eyre collection. At the end you're treated with Sunneko Lee drawing form with cats asking about your thoughts on the manga. Further on details about their process in creating Jane Eyre as a Manga and background information about Charlotte Bronte.

There will be more Classic Manga's written about here. I absolutely enjoyed my time with this and can't wait to dive into another!
