A bit of a disappointing follow up to a great first book in the series. The story was not as intelligently woven together or surprising. On top of that all the returning characters all seemed to be either the worst versions of themselves.
Perusdekkari, vaikka Björk on kyllä mielestäni sieltä paremmasta päästä.

“No one is safe in the dark..”
The Owl Always Hunts At Night by Samuel Bjork is book two in the Munch and Krüger detective series. This book brings these detectives back together with a case where a young woman is found murdered in the forest surrounded by feathers and a lily in her mouth. Mia is brought back prematurely to help solve this case while she is still battling her own demons and under the evaluation of a psychiatrist.
I read the previous book “I’m Travelling Alone” months ago and was instantly gripped by the story of the detectives and the case they were dealing with. This book continues with the troubled story of the Munch and Krüger and brings to the forefront new truths about their lives. The case itself is one which is harrowing and creepy. A murderer is positioning victims in a specific way reminiscent of animals. Theres no forensic evidence and the trails are turning into stranger avenues making it difficult to find the killer.
The story is a fast paced thriller. What I found difficult with this novel was the connections between certain revelations. Some didn’t make sense and others didn’t feel like they fit well with the direction of the plot. The characters of Munch and Krüger are the foundations of this series, in this I felt it was the blind leading the blind, it wasn’t just the killer that was mentally unstable, the detectives are the same making certain conclusions unrealistic. The case itself the way in which its described is horrific and the backstory is disturbing which could have been elevated to bring it home but it fell short for me.
There is a third book in the series which isn’t due for release until next year. I really enjoyed the first novel but this one didn’t do it for me so picking up the next one will depend on the plot. A fast paced thriller with promise which didn’t quite work for me but if you want a quick read with some truly messed up characters then this could be one for you.

The book was good.
But too many characters to focus on for my taste.
