God that was a cliche and I don't say that necessarily as a bad thing. It was cheesy, it was mostly predictable (the so called "tragic ending" to induce shock to the readers especially) and the dialogues between the main characters sometimes made me want to bang my head on the wall BUT. The characters sounded right for their age with their lofty declarations and thinking that they are quirky for having certain beliefs (ooooh I am a science gurl, I don't believe in love), but these are kind of the things that you expect teenagers to do, heck, I might have had a few thoughts (not the same one) similar to this which I cringe over right now. I liked the writing style, the way some random facts were inserted and the narration were done from their POV and also the view of various other side characters including from their past and future, that was nice, I couldn't care much about how the relationship between the characters developed because it seemed unrealistic and sort of stupid (again a trait of teenagers), I don't believe in the whole love at first sight and how that certain someone could change your whole belief system in a day but it wasn't all too bad, the author did try to address some social issue, whether it's for clout or a honest attempt to address it, I don't know and don't care much about.

Nicola Yoon knows many things, and maybe I come from the position of someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about at all. Nonetheless, I have to stress that Nicola Yoon knows many things, but she doesn’t know AP Biology, at least the way it’s taught in the year 2020.

HUMAN BEINGS ARE NOT REASONABLE creatures. Instead of being ruled by logic, we are ruled by emotions. The world would be a happier place if the opposite were true.
Logical Me:
Nobody can fall in love within the span of hours and finding "the one" is just impossible. I am not a big fan of one day stories. I probably would not have read this book if I knew it happened in the span of one day. I just refuse to accept so much could happen in one day, while I can barely accomplish anything. What the hell is the scientific way to fall in love even? Why am I reading about this irrelevant character, he nearly hit our main character..?
No real teen talks like that Daniel. You don't know where your life is headed Daniel? Neither do any other fucking 17 year olds.
Natasha you just said you don't believe in love?

Okay but they are so cute and special together. My heart is skipping beats. I love them. Those irrelevant character stories are full of warmth. Everyone around us has a story, even the guy who nearly hit someone with his car..

I completely understand where Natasha is coming from. I specially understand her younger brother's excitement in going back to Jamaica. When I was a kid my family had to move countries because of refusal of work permit renewal. And I was excited to go back to Pakistan; cause I knew nothing about it. It turned out to be completely different from what I expected (I'm obviously settled and love it here now). And If I was older and knew things before moving I would've been a Natasha. I would've been angry with the world. I did not like how the immigrancy plot line felt secondary to the romantic one. I really liked how she was comfortable in her own skin, and how geeky she was. I also liked learning about black hair history from her POV!
If people who were actually born here had to prove they were worthy enough to live in America, this would be a much less populated country.

If I'm not wrong this is the first Korean character I have read. And it's nice to finally see such diversity (both main characters are POC. YAY!). I loved how we got to know a bit about Korean culture through him Okay so I kept on thinking he reminded me of someone a lot. And guess what I have concluded this a younger Korean version of none other than Ted Mosby from HIMYM.
Both are hopeless romantics. Both are sort of pretentious quintessential nice guys. I found Daniel adorable and such a cutie at times; like i wish I'd met him at that age. But then there's the way he expects from Natasha and thinks stuff like if he's been smooth enough She’d already be dreaming of little half-Korean, half–African American babies. That is such a Ted Mosby thing. And I don't hate Ted Mosby, he's alright and emotional but has some problematic thing about him. And let's be honest if Ted knew about this scientific falling in love questionnaire he would've tried it. I honestly think that they both talk like their giving motivational important speeches too.. And can't you just picture an old Daniel telling his kids how he met their mother with very irrelevent details? No? Just me?
So I just found this Ted quote that I can totally picture Daniel saying

Admittedly I was not enjoying the book when I started. The random facts and information between the main story were irritating and I just wanted to focus. I realized they were interesting and appreciated what they were trying to do but I was annoyed nonetheless.
That being said, after getting halfway in, when I had a better feel for the story I realized that it no longer bothered me and I was able to appreciate them. And in the end I admit they are what makes the story more than what it is. They provide a connection that we usually miss, the things we don’t usually think about. The reason behind the actions of others.
It’s funny that my favorite thing about this book was the thing that annoyed me the most in the beginning. I should also mention that I was listening to the audio book so that probably added to the annoying interruption feeling that I got from them. Anyway, I really enjoyed the story. I loved the characters, I loved the idea and I loved the experience. The love story was cute but the mindfulness that I got from it was even better.

This is not a book I'm going to remember reading. It passed the time while I was in the car and was engaging enough, but it's not something that'll stick with me forever. I did enjoy it, but I wish there had been a little more substance other than that love and first sight is a real thing.
The part I did like best though was the backstories of the side characters. I enjoyed hearing why they did or didn't do things.

La historia de esta novela ha conseguido emocionarme y calarme hondo con su mensaje y la originalidad narrativa de su autora; tiene un estilo muy diferente y característico, a la vez que sensible. Atrapa desde la primera hoja.
Hay un flechazo a primera vista, cosa que no me suele gustar, pero en este libro no me molestado por la manera en la que lo ha llevado la autora. Los personajes son sólidos, están bien construidos y tienen mucha personalidad; aportan dos puntos de vista totalmente diferentes sobre la vida, el destino y las casualidades.
Además, la novela trata problemas sociales y la amplia diversidad cultural que existe en un país tan grande como son los Estados Unidos, sin rayar en el panfletismo. En resumen, es una historia preciosa y entrañable que me ha enamorado. Sin duda, ya se ha convertido en uno de mis libros favoritos.

Originally I'd read this book at 12 years old, now that it's been a few years I can see how dated/boring this book is. At first I really enjoyed it, but nah dog what is this. its' writing is so mundane yet simple but i can't stand to continue past the 140 mark.
TBH, i had a lot of nostalgia for this book, I remember finishing it and being like: dang that rlly hit different.
but it's been five years and ya it's very difficult to stomach the writing. it's honestly just.. middle school? It's very boring for Y.A, even though there's so many Y.A books with pretentious writing, this one is so bland.
The characters are alright, I enjoyed both of them but Natasha's personality was a buzzkill.
Also I would've wanted to see more interactions with Charlie and Daniel.
tbh ya making this review is tiring, but the sex scene was fun to laugh about because three of us read it aloud and it made no sense ok <3
