Wow! One of the best books I’ve read in the recent years.

So much going on here but it really did a great job exploring family dynamics. Mrs. Richardson annoyed me but I think I wasn't supposed to love her (maybe?)

I really enjoyed this read, about community coming to gather to support each other to do what was best for one parti ulae community member. The bond of community and friends who become family was something I witness regularly in my small town, and was captured beautifully by Celeste Ng.

While I thoroughly enjoyed Ng‘s writing style and prose the plot left me somewhat cold and the characters remained rather flat. Certain twists and plot developments were predictable and melodramatic, so I was never really too invested im characters nor their story, as everything seemed very cliché and was rarely surprising.
For me ‚Everything I never told you‘ was far more interesting, had more developed and complex characters and overall the better read.

A slow, but entertaining read. Ng is a fantastic writer who incorporates beautiful sentences that describe the emotions of her characters in a way that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. I found myself invested in the characters and it was a good reminder that although we might think the grass is greener, we all have our own issues and secrets to hide.

I especially loved the ending of this book because it wasn't the happy ending that we all know and want, and even though this is obvious from the beginning, I love the way that it all comes together in the end.
