It's Nancy Drew, so of course I enjoyed it.
However there was one thing that I cringed over the entire time I read the book; it was a bit painful to be honest. That thing is the lack of understanding over how American Sign Language works. Of course, I think that is due largely in part to the decade in which this book was written, but it still bothers me.
Because they only talked about the alphabet, which in ASL is only used for fingerspelling words that do not have signs. Also, you don't sign every English word; that is SE (Signed English) and is only used to teach Deaf children the English language.
I tried to keep my spiel/rant short. As someone who is going into performance interpreting, this really bothered me.
Other than that, I enjoyed the story.

I know it’s the 40/60s but having a character from South Africa and not even mentioning apartheid is a cop-out. Fun mystery still though

There’s a lot going on in this one and none of it amusing to me. The references to “finger language” felt ignorant and offensive. As always, there’s a ton of coincidence, ridiculous events, Nancy magically knows how to do everything, and she saves the day. Something about this one just completely rubbed me wrong and I almost bailed on it.
I feel like I'm in an old fashioned magazine saying this but this truly was Nancy's biggest mystery yet.
It. Has. Everything.

A quasi love interest besides Ned? - CHECK
I loved it. This is the one I'm recommending if you've never read Nancy Drew.

It was just okay. I feel like we’ve gotten a similar plot to this in another book but I can’t quite place which one. But just as I was feeling good about them not mentioning how George carries extra weight they go and name a new male character Tubby. Of all god awful things and they make you aware that he is heavier. Just didn’t sit well with me in the end.
