An interesting premise, seemingly inspired by Hatchet, but definitely for older teens. It was poetic, playing with time and memory in ways that helped develop the character over time. The ending was satisfying while still matching the overall tone of the book.

I may not agree with all the directions her stories take, but Mindy McGinnis knows how to hook you. The girl-hate is not optimal, but I feel like it’s part of her development. I would like one of McGinnis’s love interests to survive to the end of a book, though. Rights for Davey Beet.

I think it was well written but I did not really like the main character. There was growth in the last 10% but she was annoying. Still trying her best though.

Wanted to find a quick read and this was definitely it. I liked the journey of it and at the same time I felt like it went by really fast.

Mindy McGinnis is officially one of my favorite authors after this, my fourth read from her. This story was like if Wild was young adult fiction with a character getting lost rather than planning a hike. We spend most of the novel alone with the protagonist as she tries to survive in the wilderness and processes some stuff that's gone on in her life. This was like a combination of elements from her three other works, as opiate use was described well again, intersectional feminism is at the forefront with great female relationships, and it's another survival story. I tried to give it only 4 stars, but by the end I was too in love with it.
