OK, I really loved the first half of this. It felt like really fun buildup, and I was really digging the dynamics.
But then the second half kind of dragged for me :/ there was definitely great chemistry, and the spice scenes were great, but it needed to build on the emotional aspect more quickly once the hook up happened.
I totally called who the gentle bandit is and I will definitely be reading the new book next month đź¤
Mary Jane Wells is such a talented narrator, she sells this shit so well.

I didn’t want this to end! One of my
favorite tropes with a twist! Starchy, uptight duke meets confident, self-reliant woman from across class lines. The twist? The starchy duke is secretly a bareknuckle boxer, and they pretend not to recognize each other when they meet at the fights.
It sounds bonkers, but it’s so tender. I cried multiple times. Mary Jane Wells’ narration is perfect as always, and I cannot wait for the next book in the series! Louisa Darling is a new auto buy - especially if MJW is narrating!

Not a bad book, but it doesn't have much that makes it stand out.
I felt that the conflict with the step-mother was almost ignored in the end, as well as the consequences of the MMC marrying someone beneath his station. I understand that the author wanted to give a more modern view for the story, but to have a character act in a way at the beginning and then change after one single conversation felt dismissive.
