Camilla was fantastic; the rest of the stories were only okay. The readers for this audio version were only okay. Reading ghost/horror stories requires a certain tone to make the stories scary and creepy rather than silly. These readers didn't quite capture that.

There were some creepy moments in these stories, particularly when focused on some hallucination or demonic visitor that only one person could see.

Overall, entertaining, but probably not something worth seeking out unless you're already a fan of Victorian supernatural stories.

Only read “Carmilla.”

Excellent collection of 5 gothic stories. I was a bit ho-hum after the first two as they were clever but not really creepy enough but then the next one “Mr Justice Harbottle is definitely a good ghost gets revenge story! And still the book gets better with the fourth “The Room in the Dragon Volant”, a mystery that is solved in such a way as to discount anything supernatural but the fear of being drugged and buried alive is for me at least one of the most frightening ways to go! The vampire story “Carmilla” rounds out the book with a satisfying feel.

Not really sure how to rate this, the writing style makes it a difficult read, but perhaps this is just because I'm not really used to reading classics in English. Adding to that, Horror isn't a genre I usually like to read so it's probably unfair of me to rate it.
