'Copperhead' is a cross between a police procedural, a Western, and SF. I think it works great and sets things up for a great series.

Clara Benson is the new sheriff ("two f's!") in Copperhead. She's a single mom with a young son, and arriving here for an unknown reason. Her deputy, Budroxifinicus (or Boo for short), is one of the resident aliens, and also the runner up for Clara's job. That means there's a bit of a relationship to be built there. Before that can happen, the action starts. There's a domestic abuse call, followed by a mass murder. Also Clara's son goes missing looking for the neighbor's dog. Add in a diverse alien population, a bunch of aritifical intelligent robot killing machines, and a greedy mine owner, and the cast is set for what turns out to be a good spin on a somewhat routine plot line.

The main storyline seems to be more of a vehicle to set up the series from here, but I love the characters and the unexpected humor. There was a comic book series I loved called Alien Legion, and this reminds me a bit of that in all the best ways. Jay Faerber has written a good character story here and art by Scott Godlewski and Ron Riley do it justice. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, Image Comics, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Fun mix of Western and sci-fi --- reminded me of "Deadwood", with a slight Thrilling Adventure Hour's "Sparks Nevada." Great artwork, portrays the action scenes very well.

A decent detective sci-fi story.

There is a new Sheriff in town. That's the setup for a good Western - add in that She's a single mom, in a small dusty town, on a distant planet, with a mysterious past, hillbilly aliens, the ubiquitous local tycoon, with a massacre to solve. And, yep that's the setup for a good Space Western.

3,5/5. Another solid comic from Image. I feel like some stereotypes could have been avoided. Nevertheless, there are just enough hints in the narrative of what's to come to make me curious.

This was okay but I didn't get much from it, it didn't bring much new to the table, and didn't hook me enough to read beyond this volume.

This is aight, but it's definitely the modern definition of "strong female protagonist," which is "lady who can punch good."

Solid characters, inter-species conflict, an antihero mom Sheriff who just wants a peaceful day to spend with her kid now and then. This reminded me a bit of Firefly in that old west plus technology with world-weary but quippy characters. Definitely checking out vol 2.

This is on the Excelsior shortlist, otherwise I'd probably not have picked it up! I really enjoyed it!

It's a sci-fi-western kind of setting. A new Sheriff arrives with her young son in a tired old mining town and immediately has a murder to solve. There's local tensions with the native species as well the opposing sides of a recent war, and some artificial robot guys who were originally built as a killing machines to fight for the humans. The Sheriff - Clara Bronson - is a lady which is awesome for a start, also has some kind of past she's running from but we don't know much about that yet. Lots of potential!

It's a got a bit of a Firefly feel to the world with its Western style and post-war tensions, although there are plenty of alien species in the mix! Clara is not a lady you want to mess with an makes an immediate impression, and I also really like Budroxifinicus and his delightfully grumpy manner.

Like I said there is a lot of potential for a great series, hopefully I'll be able to read more!

Badass woman (single mother) sheriff on a backwoods planet in the far reaches of the galaxy. Sounds like my type of thing.
