Okay. Yeah, Okay. Havent had the chance to given anything a 5 since this year started. I actually only read this because someone else bought it (thank you to my aunt), but I had been wanting to read this for a while.
I don't know if it was the story or just the fact this book is written by C. S. Pacat that I loved it (it's both). Will and Violet and Katherine (rip.) and every single character was truly enjoyable to read about (most of the time...). It was hard to put this down.
I had suspicions of the Dark King reveal mostly out of common sense and the urge to look at fanart. Even with knowing... it was very Good. The last chapter is especially a thrill considering James and the "you set me free" craziness feeling that comes after knowing those two had a PAST.
Anyway 10/10 would read again and recommend.

This book took me quite a while to finish, but I still found it really interesting!
Despite having had multiple theories —A main one and few side ones — while reading Dark Rise, I never felt like I knew for sure what was going to happen. The one who turned out to be right was one of the theories I said as a "fun" guess more than something I truly believed in and, thus, even if the story didn't feel surprising, it was still unexpected to me —I clearly sticked with the wrong theory all along 😂
I still have so many questions, as I am sure it is the case for the majority who have read this book, and I cannot wait to see how the author is going to deal with all those new revelations.
The development of Will's personality is what intrigues me the most. Throughout the whole story I had a rather hard time understanding him. He sometimes seemed caring and then more "calculative" and commanding. Furthermore, after reading the ending and some theories, I am not even sure now if his POV was genuine or not ahah
Talking about authenticity, I noticed some incoherences in the story which disturbed me quite a lot while reading. It made me wonder if it really were simple mistakes or a lack of truthfulness from Will's POV. They both seem too insignificant to be made on purpose but too big to be just errors so, Who knows?
