Mieville's writing is excellent as always, but it's not really enough to salvage what is a stale story and premise.

Hmmm, I’m not sure what to write. Starting out I found this book challenging and difficult. As I read on, I don’t know if it got easier to read, or it just started making some sense to me. It was definitely different.

Have read a few Miéville books, no BRZRKRs at all. I'd have given up entirely quite early in the book if it was Reeves alone because there's not a lot of explanation & everyone sounds the same. Eventually I got really into it. Nothing's explained but there's tonnes of violence & I guess I was just in the mood for primeval rending of flesh.

I just could not get into this - probably my own fault, cause I know nothing about the BRZRKR series, I just really love Keanu Reeves

Really enjoyed it and didn’t understand it, and that was just fine. A compelling book that is one bizarre ramble.

I'm glad I've read other China Míeville books before this one. The Book of Elsewhere has a lot of potential, but the execution is terrible.
The story jumps around in time and is told from several points of view. Normally that wouldn't bother me, but all the shifts didn't support the story. It just felt gimic-y.
The basic story tracks the life of a guy who can't die...or rather, he can't stay dead. There are some interesting allusions to lost civilizations, but there's also a pissed off pig that chases him around.
I got a little more than 2/3rds of the way through this and gave up. I didn't care about any of the characters of what happened to them so I quit. Don't let the pig stab you in the way out, Bro.

I really enjoyed it. Of course initially I was drawn because I am a Keanu fan - but honestly the writing was excellent, the plot well conceived and well drawn. I did feel a tiny bit let down by the end, but I'm not sure how else it could have ended anyway. I do definitely recommend it. Also, I got it on kindle from the local library! Yay!
