Gotta say, I wasn't sure what to expect from a book by Keanu Reeves and my expectations were...maybe a bit too low. Then again, having China Mieville as a co-author is pretty great so chances were good that this was going to be, well, good. It was.
It was a challenging read, which any great sci-fi *shoud* be, although this one had some blood and flesh-rending and a bit of torture, so FYI if you're not into that, it's in here. It wasn't overly grahic, but it does happen throughout. The other challenging part was more philosophical and about what is mortality, and what does it mean to be human, and what happens when you're existing outside of those things and trying to make sense of your reality.
Sound like a Keanu Reeves movie yet?
Anyhoo, this book definitely delivered on great characters that made me laugh and cringe (at appropriate times) and the dialogue was spot-on, relatable and edgy.
The ending was satisfying, in that it left everything tied up that needed to be, but the future yet to be determined. Again, like any good sci-fi should.
Recommended for fans of Altered Carbon, Keanu Reeves movies, and sci-fi dealing with the real consequences of immportality in today's world.
