This is a slog to get through, not enjoyable and ultimately goes nowhere. I've read other Mieville novels and he tends to be a dense, detailed writer, but partnering with the chill of Reeves threw the whole thing over a cliff.
I’ve had the same problem with this book that I had with the comic it is based upon. It didn’t add anything new to these kind of stories, but it believes it does. It construct an overly complicated narrative for a basic idea that has been told multiple times across literary history.
I like it (I prefer the comic), but I could have done without it.

Concept wise this story was interesting, but stylistically hit or miss for me. I wonder if I would’ve felt a bit different if I had physically read it vs listening to it, but I’m unsure. Weird in an interesting way.

Really struggled with this one
I really enjoyed this! The novel is something I wouldn’t typically pick up and I was out of my depth at times but I was interested in the plot overall. 3.5 ⭐️
