Miéville's writing style can be something of a barrier at the start. But if you sink into it, there are so many riches to be found. I didn't realize this tied in with BRZRKR (a comic series I wanted to read, but haven't yet) but it was intriguing getting the story in a different form. It took a bit to "get" what the different perspective shifts were doing. But in the end, I found the book intriguing in its mix of ultra-violent action and philosophical musings about what it means to be immortal. The perspective shifts do an interesting job of giving you some insight into what it'd be like to have lived as long as B has.

DNF around 50%. Just couldn’t get my head around the shifting PoVs and found it too convoluted.

It took a while to get into this book but once I understood the structure and pacing it became more enjoyable. Overly complicated in parts but also quite simplistic in its message.

I found this book really difficult to get through. I sometimes felt like I wasn’t smart enough to be reading it, but more often felt like it was trying too hard to seem more profound than it was. I kept going waiting for some big payoff, but while the threads all came together eventually I was still left unsatisfied. I was honestly just glad to be done with it. Two stars for the premise and for the couple isolated quotes about grief and life/death I found moving.

Too dark for me with more complex world building than I prefer.

Truly unreadable. I wanted to give this a chance because I really enjoyed Miéville's The City and The City, but man this was the trenches. No descriptors of characters, very little setting description, and sentences that are not sentences. Run-ons and incomplete sentences made this painful to get through.
