Nice romance with a damaged hero who does not want to fall in love having lost too many loved ones in the past and a romantic heroine who is a very talented musician, distracted, clumsy but also a very bright strategist who will settle for nothing less than love.

I enjoyed the story but it did not sound very regency with the heroine trepang around a lot on her own.

Light and fun romance
5 stars

Lady Kate Cole is exceptionally talented, exceptionally beautiful and the darling of the ton. The only problem is that she is also exceptionally clumsy and so prone to accidents that many find it wise to stay as far away from her as possible.

But that doesn't include Andrew Hunter. The strong, rugged man is barely a gentleman but he can't help but be charmed by the delightful Kate. When he decides that she'd make the perfect wife his mind is made up. Only Kate won't settle for anything less than a love match and Hunter doesn't believe in love. Who will win in their battle of wills?

This is actually the fourth and last book in the Providence Series (after [b:As Luck Would Have It|4764414|As Luck Would Have It (Providence, #1)|Alissa Johnson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1390008072l/4764414._SY75_.jpg|4829218], [b:Tempting Fate|5107164|Tempting Fate (Providence, #2)|Alissa Johnson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1347576593l/5107164._SY75_.jpg|5173929] and [b:McAlistair's Fortune|6343698|McAlistair's Fortune (Providence, #3)|Alissa Johnson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1347741447l/6343698._SY75_.jpg|6529883]) a fact I hadn't realised when I started to read this book. Characters from the previous books featured and while it whet my appetite to read the previous books in the series, there's no need to have read them in order to understand and enjoy this story.

And I really did enjoy it. Kate was a likeable character - pretty and sweet with enough oomph to make her someone we could really root for. As for Hunter - he's my favourite type of hero - a rugged, sexy man who is barely a gentleman and in need of the love of a good woman. Together the pair were funny, sweet and had great chemistry.

The plot was fairly calm, focusing more on the relationship between Kate and Hunter than anything more adventurous. There was a sub plot concerning smugglers and Hunter's line of work but that really was only a very minor secondary story.

I was surprised by how much I really enjoyed this story and the writing style of [a:Alissa Johnson|1983627|Alissa Johnson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1445362056p2/1983627.jpg]. I'm really looking forward to reading the other books in this series and would recommend this book for people looking for a light, enjoyable romance. 5 stars.

I liked this. I’ve been curious about Kate and Hunter since I read book 3 (which is also the first book in the series I read). I’m happy to say that I wasn’t disappointed. Though I am disappointed Lizzy won’t get her own story.

Kate’s always been clumsy, so I was worried that Hunter would want to curb it by constantly looking after her (which would have annoyed me so), but he was charmed by it, and that made me like him… even if he was—obviously—going after Kate in the wrong way.

Destined to Last was very much like its predecessors in the silliness of matchmaking. I like that William Fletcher, man of the War Department was so skilled at matching people. (But you’d think, being in charge of agents, one would acquire an ability to read and sum up people quite adeptly.) It was fun.

All in all, a good solid historomance, and I’m sad to see this series end. I almost wish there were more children to be matched.

Writing Style?
Great. It's in a way historical, it's hilarious at times and written Oh so subtly. I simply love the dialogues and the conversations. Amazing!

plot?
A bit of drama and suspense. I adored that we got glimpses at some covrert mission, some investigating.
Sure the whole novel is not really historically accurate... I mean come on, how can a man and a woman be all alone so many times?? And yet noone talks... Not authentic.

Characters?
I was very disappointed..
Don't get me wrong. I loved Kate. She's such a strong and lovely person. But she is also sooo naive. And not even in the general sense because she is quite intelligent, no, rather when it comes to love and sex... Not once does she think about what losing her V card could mean...
And her hero? I cannot believe that he puts her reputation at stake. Again and again. Disappointing... Plus, it takes him way too long to ask for her hand...

Except for that, the ending was pretty awesome and made up for the some of what happened before. Definitely a good read!

This has been sitting on my TBR shelf for ages, and I'm glad I finally picked it up. I wasn't aware it was the last book in a connected series, but that doesn't interfere with the enjoyment of the story. Andrew Hunter is an agent for the War Department, Lady Kate is a lovely earl's daughter known for her great beauty and extreme clumsiness. I enjoyed how their story developed, how Hunter knew what he wanted and his methods for pursuing it. Even the reasons for Kate's clumsiness made great sense and added to the character's personality.

I believe this was the first novel by Ms. Johnson I've read, but I'll keep my eyes open for more from her in the future.
