I didn't expect to cry this much with this book. Hormones or not, it had me in tears more times than I can count.

At this point, I'm so deeply attached to every single character in this story. I went in not knowing what to expect, but I ended up loving the narrative style β€” it made it almost impossible to put the book down because I just had to know what would happen next.

And honestly? This book made me completely fall for Robbin. For so many reasons, he’s now my absolute favorite. What can I say? Him and his entire pack deserve some peace already. Three books of misery with a sprinkle of found family? I mean, ok, I’ll take it β€” but please, let them be happy at the end!! 😭😭😭

It's been a while since I read the first two books in the series, so I had forgotten about a lot of the side characters that make up the pack. It took a while to adjust to all the characters and the plot that arcs across all the books, but once my memory was refreshed, this moved along very quickly. I love the concept of the twist happening in the first part of the book. At first I (like most readers, I'm sure) thought that we were starting with Robbie's POV from before he ever joined the Bennett pack. I was really impressed with how sinister and unsettling things ended up being. I thought the plot of this, along with the action, was well-done.

I enjoyed Robbie and Kelly's relationship, but what I love most about romance stories is seeing the couple fall in love and being there for those important moments of development. Because a lot of the romance happened before the events of this book but wasn't put into great detail in this book, it was initially difficult to feel much of a romance at all. It's not that I don't buy in to the idea of Robbie and Kelly as mates, because I do, and I definitely believe in the deep love between them, but I wanted to see more than just a few scenes of Kelly telling Robbie about their relationship, or a few very brief scenes of Robbie's flashbacks at the very end of the book. I still ultimately believe in them as a couple, and I think it's a testament to T.J. Klune's ability to write such rich, beautiful characters. I just wanted more time with Robbie and Kelly together, with Robbie relearning his love for Kelly, and with more scenes between them after Robbie gets his memories back.

One final thing that frustrated me is that too often, a tense or emotional scene is undercut by a dumb joke from a member of the pack who isn't directly involved in the emotional beat of the scene. I think this works well very occasionally to break big tension and show that the pack is really familiar with each other, and that things don't stay tense for too long. But I think it was done too often in this book, and some scenes and conversations would have been more poignant if characters hadn't inserted dumb jokes during the tension. It ends up feeling like Klune doesn't fully buy in to the emotional scenarios he's creating, and he doesn't trust the readers to receive the emotional weight either.

Despite my gripes, I'm still giving this 4 stars because I loved Kelly and Robbie as characters, I loved the magic and the story, and I mostly love the dynamics of the pack and the Bennett family.

Once again TJ Klune has solidified himself as my favourite author of all time. The characters he writes are so REAL. They feel like true people with deep emotions and valid relationships.

Kelly has my whole entire heart. I love him so much.

Anyway easily another of my favourite books
