This is absolutely painful because I want to love this series like everyone else (and bc of the amount of time I've invested in it---bc goodness). And I think there's something special in the first four books. But I can't keep pretending like Queen of Shadows didn't put me in a slump with this series because it absolutely did and I need to own it. And Empire of Storms did not bring me back.
The problem with these books is that they take too dang long to get to the point. There is not enough actual substance to necessitate over FIVE THOUSAND pages of content. Nothing here is interesting enough to demand so much of my time (not even Manon, who is far and away the peak of this series), especially when the series takes such a turn after Heir of Fire that it doesn't even feel like the same story anymore. Also, the way Sarah destroyed Chaol Westfall as a character needs to be studied in depth.
I've tried twice now with this. I think I'm good. Excited for ACOTAR though!

I thought this got in with the other books well and kept me interested while advancing the plot. I definitely have lost track of all the specifics of this quest as they keep adding side quests that. Need to also happen. But, alas, I keep reading to find out.

**I did the tandem read with Tower of Dawn**
Perfection. This book focused on all the characters I like in the series on an emotional and exciting journey. I don’t think I can properly describe how I am feeling after reading this, but I went through the wringer. I would start the next one right now, but I actually have work tomorrow and unfortunately I do need to sleep

Tandem reading is long and annoying, but worth it if you prefer chronologically. Took forever though! Between the two books in this timeline, this is Aelin’s storyline.
