An excellent end to a very well written series. Laurie Halse Anderson does so wonderful adding unexpected, but well-placed twists to her stories. Very satisfying finish.

The wonderfully fast-paced finale to this trilogy about early America. This one is particularly poignant -- what happens when you finally find the one you've been looking for and it doesn't go as expected? The relationship between Isabel and Curzon is deftly told for a middle-grade audience. Good history as well about slaves and whose side they fought on during the Revolutionary War and why.

In this third book in a series, Isabel and Curzon are searching for Isabel's sister, who was taken from her and sent south to their masters' other home. They've been searching for years, but when they finally find Ruth, things don't go quite as Isabel planned. Set during the American Revolutionary War, the main characters try to find their own freedom as people of color and to find their place within this country fighting for its freedom from the British.

Just awesome. The book explores the Revolutionary War and fighting for African-Americans, both as slaves and as free people, and the terrible hypocrisy of the Founding Fathers in declaring the USA a free nation while still owning slaves. And Laurie Halse Anderson is always a treat to read. Despite the historical thread and "old-fashioned" dialogue, the story moves quickly and is very interesting. And the Appendix at the back, where she answers some of the questions YA readers are likely to have and provides sources for further reading, is fantastic.

As satisfying as it was to learn what happened with Isabel, Ruth and Curzon, I'm sad this trilogy has come to an end.

Conclusion to the Seeds of America trilogy.

One of the best series I have ever read. I learned so much! This was not taught in school when I attended high school and college. I'm so glad it is now.

Very enjoyable.

I LOVED this book! So happy with how this trilogy ended. I hadn't read any Laurie Halse Anderson in awhile, so I'd forgotten how much I love her writing. It is absolutely gorgeous. I also appreciated how she didn't gloss over or sugarcoat the irony of the patriots fighting for their freedom while at the same time denying freedom to slaves.
