No disagreements that Kent Williams' paintings are absolutely stunning, but the story was too bifurcated (trifurcated?) for me. It eventually came together, but braiding timelines is always difficult.

This book was a brilliant read. As a fan of manga and graphic novels, I've read this book multiple times to truly appreciate the artistry, I love the switching styles in between settings. The story was emotional, made even more so by the art. Overall, I would very much recommend this book to anyone.

I was a little confused when I finished this, but after I'd put it down and thought about it overnight, I finally came up with an opinion.
It's nice. The storyline is a little higgilty-piggilty, and honestly, there are still parts of it where I'm thinking, 'okay, what happened and how does this relate?'
There is a review on here that I feel sums up what I felt was wrong with the novel. This is the one, if you care to read. I don't agree with all of it, but it does talk about what I felt was missing and problematic with the comic.
What I thought stood out was the artwork. Some people on here have said that it wasn't that great, and it can detract from the story, but I felt this is what stood out. I like painted comics best, and I like sketchy art, both of which The Fountain had. I also think it works best for the future scenes.
I haven't seen the movie (which Peter will be annoyed about, because he kept telling me to watch the movie before reading the book... sorry!) so I can't compare, but I'll be watching it after I've mulled over the story a little more.

It's an interesting read with a gripping story but the art is what really glued me to the pages, art which was changing with almost every turn of the page.

Not your usual book - it's not so much plot-driven or character-driven as it is a sequential visualization of an abstract idea. If that makes any sense. Some very compelling imagery and beautiful paintings in this work. I enjoyed the movie as well.

It’s strange to read this after the movie. A movie I enjoyed, for sure, but one I understand better reading this. The vision comes across much clearer in graphic novel form.

A stunningly beautiful book with a powerful love story. It touched me deeply.

Some really incredible artwork, and some that just looks weird and out of place. Overall Aronofsky's film is a better representation and visualization of this story. This graphic novel lacks a lot of what makes the movie great, but it is still worth a read for any fan of this story.
