I like Kingfishers' writing style a lot. I paused a couple times reading this book to make sure it wasn't one of her scary ones because I'm a baby. I liked how the relationship developed and the different direction the story went, but I can't say I care all that much about beauty and the beast retellings and it felt like something was missing here, not sure what. No regrets having read it though.

This may win the prize for the funniest Beauty and the Beast retelling I've ever read! It's also sweet, and quirky, and has lightly creepy/gothic vibes, and that was all a great combination for me.
