The structure and style of this book just did not work for me - the first half was too opaque, the characters instantly forgettable, and the actual bridge-building and the tensions associated with this was lost under inner monologues that were often unconnected. I understand that this was the point of the novel, that coming together of personalities with very different intentions and priorities, in an artificial and temporary environment, but it did not draw together in a way that kept me engaged.
