I'm oh so very confused. This book was marvellous and all but what the hell was going on in the last 100 pages.
Avery gets bombed, put into a coma, gets technically kidnapped from a hospital, survives whatever was actually wrong, then once she's fully healed, she actually gets kidnapped, nearly shot at yet again and still uncovers the mystery and saves the day all in a week. A week. I need whatever drug she was taking because jesus christ, she can't catch a damn break. This girl was just trying to live her life and now she's hella traumatise. What the hell!
I enjoyed this book more than the last. I like that
Jameson and Greyson
were more bearable this time. Last book I thought they had the personality of a wet paper towel. Anyway, good book, 4 stars, keep it up Jennifer!

I increased the star rating by almost an entire star compared to its predecessor in the series because it was far less predictable and it really kept me wanting to read even more.

Est unus ex nobis. Nos defendat eius.
She is one of us. We protect her.

Okay, Jameson and Avery might have won me over by the end but Gray is still my favorite. Fun fast paced plot and I loved the Toby mystery and
toby and Avery’s moments when he told her she felt like his daughter

“Heads, I kiss you. Tails, you kiss me. And either way, it means something.”

“Picture yourself standing on a cliff overlooking the ocean. The wind is whipping your hair. The sun is setting. You long, body and soul, for one thing. One person. You hear footsteps behind you. You turn. Who's there? I remembered a voice. Jameson Winchester Hawthorne.”

“Your silence on the issue of people trying to kill you is deeply disturbing.”

This series is the definition of curve ball and somehow it always makes sense. There is no solving these books in advance. You, the reader, are definitely just along for the whirlwind ride, and yet they always keep me feeling engaged.
It takes forever to get to an answer but the pacing is done so well that the book never feels slow.
Once again, Jennifer Lynn Barnes has earned a gold star for dialogue. Every quip had me smiling. Every heartfelt confession tugged at my heart.
I don't know how the characters of Hawthorne House can be so mysterious and so loveable at the same time, but every one of them is thoroughly enjoyable.
Even though the story felt like it would have to leave loose ends, Barnes managed to wrap every mystery in a satisfying bow.
The plot may not be complex and the characters may not be the deepest you'll ever read, but I completely enjoyed every page of The Hawthorne Legacy and can't wait to dive in to book 3.
