I flew through this book, centered on complex family dynamics. TW: rape, sexual assault
What a wild ride and what an incredible twist. Trust no fucking one ever.
Yuck, yuck, yuck. This book was just icky. I hated Cassie. The big secret reveal was just so awful. I listened to the audiobook and I don't usually like to complain about the quality of the narration because it's not the book's fault but this one was really bad. Specifically, the volume level was not consistent, especially with dialog. So frustrating to be listening at a comfortable volume when all of a sudden it was too low to hear so I had to turn it up, rewind and then the volume would go back up and it was too loud so I would have to turn it back down. Over and over.
4.5 stars, rounded up. The subject matter here is TOUGH, but it's also real. I've seen many 1- and 2-star ratings where the reviewer simply doesn't like how sexual assault is addressed in this book, but none of it is untrue, unfortunately. The author did an amazing job showing the effects of it on so many different types of people. This also was a page-turner. I read the last 150 pages in one sitting. It's just so well done!

I originally DNF'd this book, but then came back to it after watching an interview with the author.
I think this book has interesting topics and themes to explore, but the writing is so slow and repetetive.

This book was propulsive, but icky. It had content I did not expect and did not enjoy reading about, but I still wanted to see how it ended.
This book was well written, but it had a really distinct ick-factor to its subject matter which made it hard to like. I'm not sure there's much more I can say. I found myself going back to it as often as I could, but the subject matter was difficult.

I can appreciate what she’s trying to do with this book, but it fell short for me. I was still unable to feel empathy for any of the characters.
